Will they be wearing them for actual games? What's on the other side...not one single pic of that side of the helmet.

I am glad to see this gesture. I was wondering about the other side, as well.

They haven't put anything on there as of yet. 54 is all that is on the helmet thus far. I'm sure a rocket will go on the other side closer to game day.

A bright future just snuffed out.

A simply terrible act. At least some thoughtful acts are Attempting to fill the void.

Will be interesting to hear the in-game discussion explaining the reason for honoring #54. It will be discussed every time out for better or worse. Hoping that the UT Media team has an uplifting message for the TV folks. Very sad still when you think of it.

Good point. This could very easily create a negative perception about Toledo depending on how game reporters handle the discussion of a shooting death of a UT athlete.

Knowing facts is always good. Have the facts come out?

My thoughts exactly. There's no need for the ESPN guys to go into the specific details of what happened, but ya never know. So here's hoping UT Media communicates with them about that prior to games.

I'd have to say this video would be a good piece of media to provide to the public as part of some other info - including some of his defensive plays on the field - to help tell the story of Douglas. Seems shy in the video, but with a big smile.

RE: Helmets Will Honor Jahneil Douglas
the whole thing is sad. whether it happened in Toledo, Sylvania or Detroit. It also doesn't really matter if he was shot for saying nothing, arguing with someone or as the result of a scuffle. None of it justifies using a deadly weapon and trying to kill someone. It also shouldn't really matter if he was a good student (he was) or a nice guy (he was). Whenever someone is killed for no good reason it is a tragedy. Sh!t, sometimes it's tragic when someone is engaged in an act of violence and is killed. Hopefully, his memory will be well honored in the media, but all that is really secondary to the loss to his friends, teammates and family

I thought that this aspect of the TV coverage was done very tasteful. Also like the more subdued image on the jersey. Well thought out and a solid tribute to JD. Good job Rockets!!

Yes it's sad. We get that. The whole point is that if the media portrayed it in a manner that leaves anyone to assume the worst occurred and ended with a shooting death of a player off campus at a pizza store, then it will be nearly impossible to wash away the negativity that impression will leave. We don't want anyone to view the game and come away with the impression of one of your listed items - "sometimes it's tragic when someone is engaged in an act of violence and is killed". According to the limited sourcing of the incident, it appears that Douglas had some type of altercation with the shooter before he was killed. Your last point is what we were hoping for - that "his memory will be well honored by the media". I think that was accomplished, but there will still be questions from those that saw the tribute and only know that a player was killed. I would imagine many will try to Google it to find out what happened. That part of the media reporting will not be viewed as kindly.
