That's a ******* horrible thing to say, what a douchebag....04-cheers

Perhaps Ridder has to quarantine due to contact tracing and Bryant gets the start? A much more PC way to say that.

Yes that's better. I meant since Bryant has already been through it, he may get the start if Ridder is quarantined. Wasn't wishing CV on Ridder. Thanks for the help:)

5 UCF [43.8/avg]
7 SMU [42.6/avg]
17 Memphis [38.0/avg]
22 Cincinnati [35.7/avg]

On the flip, how does their dee compare in limiting points?

6 Cincinnati [12.3/avg]
27 SMU [25.4/avg]
55 UCF [33.3/avg]
61 Memphis [34.3/avg]

Small sample size but it's a starting point. UCF is bi-polar-esque.

Helpful statistics. Underestimating SMU's defense would be a mistake. Some fans didn't think much of Brian Kelly's defense here but when the offense takes the ball at its own 25 yard line and scores in 52 seconds it does mean the defense is taking the field early and often. And covering the deep ball all day long can take its toll in fatigue and PI penalties. There are good reasons that SMU is 5-0.

Having said all that, I'm confident Fickell will have the Bearcats primed and ready to defend the top ten ranking and stay atop the conference race.

Thoughtful and well written. There are good reasons for Vegas and others to predict a very close game. Without question, this and UCF will be the toughest road challenges for Cincy this season. I do believe it could go either way based upon a turnover or special teams play. Go 'Cats!

RE: SMU Game
I think we lose. I don’t think we will keep up with their scoring attack.

In order to win:

We need to be positive in the takeaway dept.

We need to rush the ball for over 200 yds and melt the clock.

We need Ridder to make some plays in the passing game.

Not confident we can do all 3.

I know it's early and we haven't played anyone, but has anyone seen how much the analytic sites love our defense? SP+ has our overall defense at #5. PFF has Elijah Ponder as their highest rated defensive player in college football. They also have us as the top red zone defense, and have our secondary rated so high that it would be statistically better if opposing team quarterbacks threw the ball into the ground.

I fear a correction back to the mean is approaching.

That's unnerving. Sounds like Jeremy Cooper will not be starting. Wonder if his positive test came this week. But also seems like they're still intent on playing.

With our defense, if the offense protects the ball and doesn't give up easy points and extra possessions i think we'll be fine. Start turning it over, another matter. I don't like this team having to play from behind right now.

The game was previewed in the CFBS weekend preview. One of the games to focus on this weekend. SMU's offense is good but they run up numbers against defenses that cannot matchup. Cincy will give them all they want...

Not playing last week gave more time for #1 to round back to shape. It's been a low key season performance thus far. I predict a break out game for Mr. Wiggins. No time like the present...

He's alive and well as of a few weeks ago but retired from posting. Sounds like he doesn't even browse here much if at all but he might reply to an email at the address in his bio here.

RE: SMU Game
nice game hype from espn:

Cincinnati faces SMU in 2020's best Group of 5 battle, and the Big Ten is back in college football's Week 8

Quote:The biggest college football game on Saturday? It's happening in Dallas between No. 9 Cincinnati and No. 16 SMU -- two of the nine unbeaten teams left in the FBS.

If you're eager for the Big Ten's return, the Bearcats vs. the Mustangs may not be the game you're most excited for. But these two ranked Group of 5 teams face an opportunity to add a résumé-building win in an attempt to accomplish the seemingly impossible: make the College Football Playoff.

We're not getting ahead of ourselves here -- even in a season when most conferences have started on their own time and are playing their own conference-specific schedules, a G5 team's best effort might not make the committee bat an eye, but it's fun to root for chaos.

SMU will be Cincinnati's biggest test since its 24-10 win over Army on Sept. 26. And while the Bearcats haven't played since Oct. 3 (their Oct. 17 game at Tulsa was postponed due to COVID-19 cases within the Cincinnati program), they have been consistent in their three games so far.

Of note: their defense that is ranked fifth in SP+. That still "wins championships," right?....
