RE: SMU Game
I like the match-up against Smoo better than I did Tulsa. Smoo is all about their offense and they're dinged up. I think our defense shuts them down. On the other side, Smoo's defense is really weak. I think we run wild on them.

UC wins this one comfortably.

I like your scenario--and hope you're right. If so, we'll all sleep more soundly when this one wraps up around midnight Saturday.

RE: SMU Game
I'm worried about how good our secondary is. I know they have been hawking the ball to date, but have not faced a good QB yet. The USF QB that came in the second half tore them up on first couple drives, although threw a couple picks after that. Buechele will be one of the best we face this year.

The good news is if we take care of business, this would be a quality road win that helps us in the AP poll. Folks above us keep losing each week so there remains opportunities to climb a few spots higher.

They have no D.

Good game for Ridder to get off the schneid and end the Des-Bryant matter once and for all.

RE: SMU Game
Two things I want to see in this game: 1) our passing game is a strength as opposed to a weakness and 2) our DB's frustrate the crap out of Buechele.

RE: SMU Game
I suspect we’ll rush for over 200 yards in this game- possibly 250. Everyone has been successful moving the chains on the ground against the Ponies and it suits one of our strengths.
It will be interesting to see who is held out this game due to protocol.

Still wondering if the game will be played at all on Saturday? Any idea when a "go/no go" decision will be made? I'm guessing the team would fly to Dallas on Friday morning under normal circumstances.

RE: SMU Game
IF UC can run the ball better against SMU it will help Ridder out and take some pressure off of him.

The SMU passing game will give UC trouble. They need to be able to minimize the long pass plays with good coverage and pressure on the QB.

I posted in another thread but sounds like Fickell is optimistic the game will be played. The same is being said from the SMU side. Sounds like UC was able to stop the outbreak, found out who all was positive without impacting anyone, and have them isolated. Just curious who they are.

I would imagine the SMU coaching staff will be smart enough to load the box to stop the run. The film is out there that this is the way to beat us. Now, we still might have some success despite that. But I'm guessing our opponents will make Ridder beat them from here on out.

Perhaps Ridder got COVID and Bryant gets the start.

RE: SMU Game
Does anyone else think this game is basically Georgia v Alabama lite? Meh offense with excellent D (georgia/uc) vs excellent o and meh d (ala/smu)

I actually think we can hold them under 30, the question is can we score that much lol

RE: SMU Game
The film has been out on our team since last year. The issue is we had Truck Warren to take the pressure off and Ridder ran more last year. We're not going to all of sudden transform to a passing offense unless we change the QB. Fick's won with good DEE, special teams and running the ball/control the clock. That's been the formula - to the consternation of many on the board. My issue this year is Ridder needs to play to his strengths - dual threat and not becoming a pure pocket passer. He also has to work on his deep ball - it needs better air/arc under it and not a straight line bead. Honestly, with all due respect to SMOO, the teams to be concerned with are Memphis and UCF. Those are the two teams that we've had trouble beating in recent years. I guess you can throw in Temple too.

RE: SMU Game
I’ve watched all of the televised SMU games, yes their defense isn’t all that great, but one thing they do well is pass rush. If UC is forced to pass from having the run game stuffed or trailing by double digits, their pass rush may give UC some issues. SMU losing Roberson and their starting RB helps UC big time, but they can’t fall asleep against that offense. I fully expect the the defense to live up to its billing. It’s on Ridder and the offense to win the game.

Perhaps Ridder has to quarantine due to contact tracing and Bryant gets the start? A much more PC way to say that.

RE: SMU Game
SMOO's offense can move the ball no doubt but how do they compare in FBS in terms of scoring points?

5 UCF [43.8/avg]
7 SMU [42.6/avg]
17 Memphis [38.0/avg]
22 Cincinnati [35.7/avg]

On the flip, how does their dee compare in limiting points?

6 Cincinnati [12.3/avg]
27 SMU [25.4/avg]
55 UCF [33.3/avg]
61 Memphis [34.3/avg]

Small sample size but it's a starting point. UCF is bi-polar-esque.
