Two Questions
Two questions:

1) If JMU would of maintained their top 5 FCS Status in 2009 - 2015 as they had been 2004-2008 & 2016-2019 would they have moved up to FBS? (you could argue 14 & 15 were exciting, if not that successful)

2) Would you rather be / would there be more excitement if we were -
a) 5-0 and ranked 1st or 2nd in FCS
b) 5-0 in FBS against a weak schedule including a win at a subpar Syracuse?

RE: Two Questions
1) Would’ve made no difference. Status clearly has no tie to success.

2) FBS, because at least we’d be playing. Among other reasons.

I agree with you on 1)

On 2 you changed the question - forget covid. Just a normal season with two 5-0 starts.

I'd easily pick b) 5-0 versus weak FBS and at a subpar Syracuse. I'd be very excited with a start like Liberty has had this year. (and that pains me to type that 03-drunk).

RE: Two Questions
1. Not sure that would matter if the administration doesn't want to move up

2. I'd rather be 5-0 in FBS. No matter how you want to spin it, playing FBS is better, its a level up. Its like saying would you rather be 5-0 in the SEC West and be ranked #2 or be 5-0 in the NFC East? Hell half of the Redskins roster is from the SEC and they still suck.

RE: Two Questions
1. NO difference in where we are now.
2. Not even close, national relavance vs. not nationally relevant. FBS.

RE: Two Questions
JMU could have been undefeated in 14 and 15 and we'd still be FCS. Winning would not have motivated the decision makers. They are fiscally conservative. No gamblers on board this train.

No. 2, if it is to be stated that LU is 5 - 0 against a weak schedule, then it should also be stated that we'd be 5 - 0 against a weak schedule by playing our usual FCS teams. Just about every team Liberty has played would be favored over the teams we play, with the lone exception of North Alabama, and they'd be favored over the cupcakes we normally line up for a beatdown at BFS. Give me FBS where we can compete against better competition on a weekly basis.

RE: Two Questions
FBS isn’t a gamble when you have a $52 million athletic budget. JMU Is the outlier by far.
I think there are some schools that have a larger athletic budget, but don’t play FBS football. Does anyone know who they are?

I know the median budget for Sun Belt, CUSA, and the MAC teams is much lower than JMU’s stratosphere.

RE: Two Questions
1. There was never a plan to go FBS. There was a serious testosterone deficiency in Wilson Hall in those days and our admin was avoiding FBS like it was COVID.

2. Being #1 in FCS is cool and all, but it still only makes us the tallest midget in our school. Even the dorks and girls are taller than us, but at least we are taller than that handful of other midgets.

1. No. We still wouldn't have an invitation to anyone but SBC, which the admin rejected.

2. Probably the latter, but I don't care as much about it as I used to. I'm happy in FCS, provided we have strong competition and a strong conference. (I can do without the games against St. Francis et al.) I am concerned that the NCAA's screwing with the transfer rules may prove to be a problem for FCS.

RE: Two Questions
I wish you would have - or wish you will. You could do it, and do it well. You would be better than most of CUSA and the Sun Belt in short time - as stated your athletic budget and facilities are already better than most of those schools. ULM? With all due respect and no offense meant...ULM has a total budget of some 16 million - no business playing FBS football.

By either measure - attendance/support or quality on the field (computer rankings) JMU is already better than just about all Sun Belt or CUSA schools. The only school from those conferences that outperformed JMU over the last 4 years was ASU. Kinda of the painful nugget to many JMU fans.......

Haha, oops. Fair enough.

2) I'd much rather be 5-0 vs any level of FBS at this point. A lot goes into it, but that's the short version.
