Falwell is Liberty. Are you that naive?

If he returns you're correct, until then I think they have started the process of purging Falwell from any future connection with the school

You must not know the history. Do you think the family line that built liberty is just going to walk away?

I know the history well, Falwell Sr. was a fixture at the church I attended in the 70's. The Board of Governors and the largest donors will decide if Falwell stays. Money talks, Wake Forest severed it's Southern Baptist ties when they BOG realized there was more money from Rich Alumni who wanted that split.

I agree. Let's see how Liberty does over 3-4 more years. I am reminded of UTSA when they came on the football scene(and this not a knock on UTSA).

2012 8-4 Basically a new football program.
2013 7-5 Beat New Mexico; lost to Arizona but played them tough in front of a good crowd at the Alamodome.
2014 4-8
2015 3-9
2016 6-7
2017 6-5 Beat Baylor
2018 3-9
2019 4-8

Again, not trying to make UTSA look bad, but startup programs can have a hard time being successful. Hell, North Texas has been playing football for 100 years and still can't be successful like some programs. (looking at you La Tech04-bow)

Fallwell JR is out. It's just a matter of financials at this point.

I posted a link to a story earlier on it.

Honestly, as a Christian myself, I think it's best that Liberty distance itself from the Fallwell lineage completely. As an outsider, it seems as if they have not only a PR image to improve, but theologically, they need work.

Getting as far away from the Fallwell family is only going to help them in the Christian community. And that's their base. If they continue to hold on to the extreme legalistic take they've promoted, especially in light of Fallwell JR's exploits, they are only going to hurt their image.

The main issue is under Fallwell JR, Liberty University has gotten far too political.

Stick to the basics of solid Christian education. KISS method.

But still, the chance to play in an FBS-league is not one they would discard casually.

You wouldn’t even have to accept their other sports. Liberty has a good thing going with Atlantic Sun and that can continue.

I think Liberty is fine with Independence for FB. If they did join a conference it would be to upgrade from the ASUN and football would come along if it were an FBS conference. Their MBB had been historically very bad but the last few years would have been at or near the top of CUSA. Baseball is also very good. I'd take them as an all sports member at this point I think from a purely athletic competitiveness veiwpoint.

Being fine with Independence comes off as pride to me. A “You didn’t want us in your league? Fine, we’re happier being Independent anyway!” type of thing.

Take a look at their future schedules. They look like most G5 schedules without the benefit of qualifying for the NY6 Access Bowl. They aren’t scheduling like Notre Dame, BYU, or even UConn with a plethora of P5 games.

I think they would take an all-sports invite if one was offered.

I do too. But I don't think they'd take a football only invite.

Personally, I'd want a full-conference invite, but one positive about Independence has been this year's schedule. We managed to secure 3 P5's, which wouldn't have been possible in a conference.

However, thinking long-term, I want to have full ties to an FBS conference. It's nice to have some freedom for now as an Independent, but that only goes so far.

And you also had to schedule two fcs teams... before COVID.. that isn’t good either.

Going forward Liberty does not have 2 FCS teams in any year of their schedule. This happened because upon joining FBS, many of the teams already have their schedules done for years. This year two FCS teams, not 1 FCS team counts towards bowl eligibility. Liberty badly wanted to be bowl eligible, since that is huge early on when you are building a program.

I do think one of the advantages to being and independent is you can schedule 2 or 3 Power 5 schools, whereas, many teams in the Sun Belt or Conference USA only get 1.

Don't look now, LU, killing So. Miss. 56 - 28 late 4th Quarter. I think Liberty is for real this year, even if it may be a once in a longshot season.

That is not a huge feat. Beating a depleted USM at home? Meh.

Liberty has up next....

@ 19 Va Tech
@ 23 NC State
@ 25 Coastal Carolina

Respect. That's a murderous row of upcoming games. IF Liberty can come out of that 2-1, they will get ranked.

Also, if that happened, I want Marshall to play Liberty November 28.

Va Tech & NC state both lost today, won’t be ranked tommorow

Doesn't matter if they're ranked, those will still be quite the test.

,

Tech likely a loss, NC State missing starting QB, backup is not good, they may win there, Coastal looking solid that would be an impressive win. Liberty has already added UMASS on 11/27.

I want Coastal and Liberty to both be ranked for their game, if only for the possibility that the Big South has more top 25 teams than the Pac 12

DAMNIT.

That's it for November 28th then. I doubt we can get BYU, Army or Navy.

Does anyone know if Hamrick has tried to get a game lined up for that open date?

Thanks in advance.
