I am not taking anything from the UMASS game other than we won. The CCU game will tell us if we have progressed since UL.

Shai was 11 for 18 against UL for 255 yards passing. I think the problem in so many games is all we call are deep, 50/50 balls, and he's never really allowed to get into a rhythm. Obviously, UMASS is terrible, but we can still scheme for passing plays that are high percentage throws, that will help ease the defense off our run game at least a little.

Also, practice makes perfect and there’s no better practice than live in game passing experience.

I agree live reps helped not matter how bad UMASS was. However, we had guys wide open, CCU's defense is average at best so maybe that continues a bit but not as bad as UMASS. It is not like Shai was having to drop dimes into tight spaces. Nor can he for the most part. He is a great scrambler, elusive, and makes the easy throws now which he struggled with most of his career. I like our chances for sure but UMASS, ULM and Campbell stats are fools gold. UMASS and ULM are literally the lowest rated two FBS teams and everyone but us destroyed Campbell. The play calling in the UMASS games seemed more inventive may be more than it needed to be, hope we did not tip too much for this weekend. We are more like UL game on offense than UMASS or ULM for sure, how much is what we are going to find out on the back half of the season as the games get much harder. Nobody in the realm of ULM or UMASS left.

They should have accepted the MAC full member invitation. Thats on them. A program at the G5 level can't survive and thrive without a conference. Very dumb decision to turn the invitation down with dreams of being relevant in the A10 once again. UConn will be another UMass shortly.

Football and the NE just do not go together, at least at the FBS level. The death of the Big East was the last nail in the coffin appears. Millions more in population than most regions produces this.

UCONN
UMASS
Syracuse
Rutgers
Buffalo

Army does not count, it is not a regional school.

I agree that is how things are now, but there was a time when syracuse, boston college could play and beat anyone. Buffalo is not far removed from being decent, they had a little run going. UConn back petaled into a BCS bowl one year. Rutgers was even relevant before they went the the Big Ten.

Umass had a chance at being relevant when they had access to bowls etc by being in the MAC, earn a dollar and get exposure. They really screwed up imo by not taking that full invitation. No one wants them just for football, that's why the MAC gave them an ultimatum. UConn is going to find out the same thing. I don't know of any G5 conference that wants their football without the other sports. What's really sad about that, they built a nice new stadium just to move up to the Big East. Now what good is it? All for nothing, just so they could put basketball back with st john's etc. Well good luck to em, they will likely not sniff another bowl for a long time and it's a complete waste. Damn northeast people make no sense to me.

No one cares up there. Lacrosse, Baseball, NFL, NBA, UMass has a solid setup to roll but academics makes the decisions. We like both down here. Maybe UMass will become the new MIT! In the mean time we'll chase footballs around and find other reasons for alumni to get together.

Now is all that matters, Harvard used to the best team in football. We all struggle from time to time, like when you hire position coaches to lead a program but GS fans always know we can be much better with competent coaching and still have tons of room for improvement. We are in a top-three football talent state, a growing state, and a growing university. I dont know how many MAC or NE schools have the same long term growth potential. I mean App, GS and now state basically are equal to any MAC or CUSA schools within less than a decade and how long have they been FBS?

RE: GS/Mass game
most of those schools were relevant before recruiting became national

I mean if a kid is good even those of us in the Sun belt will know about them and begin recruiting them

and for the most part CCU> most any school in the NE if for nothing else weather alone

I use CCU but could use any of us

That's an interesting take coming from a team that's peaked with two 7-win seasons.

The CAA makes sense, but right now not sure they can compete at the FCS level.

Campbell would have beaten them as bad as we did.
