This is a summary of the AAC first, second, and third tier FB schools, based on their records over the past few years. The purpose is to begin charting the trends, over time, among the conference's FB and MBB programs.

NOTE: 2020 records are not included in this summary.

AAC Tier 1 (9+ FB wins, NCAA tournament bids):

FB: Cincinnati, Memphis, & UCF

Navy(in 2015, 2016 & 2019), SMU (2019/20), Houston (2015/16), USF (2016/17), Tulsa (2016), & Temple (2015/16) had Tier 1 teams.

The information above illustrates how the number of high quality teams and the overall stature of the conference could be improved by replacing UConn with a quality all-sports school (e.g., BYU) or quality FB and BB schools (e.g., Air Force & VCU).

Well, you seem to have forgotten Navy's 11-2 (7-1) 2015 season.

And overall, I would say a "program" or school doesn't vacillate from one tier to another year by year - Navy wasn't fundamentally different between 3-10 2018 and 11-2 2019, just had a bad year one year (or we can call it two losing years out of seventeen).

And I don't get how you leap from musing about how schools tier to your conclusion. You need one of Tom Smykowski's mats.

To answer your other question, we came within a last second dropped pass in the endzone of beating the 2002 national champions. You asked.

....but they are based on the school's actual W-L records, and revised in accordance with reader's suggestions.

Cincinnati is the flagship.

Because Navy's record was 3-10 in 2018, 7-6 in 2017, and because Navy has had a couple of blowout losses early this season, it would have been incorrect to describe Navy as a consistent Tier 1 (9+ wins) team over the past 5 years.

The table shows - - accurately - - that in their five seasons in the AAC, Navy was a Tier 1 team in 2015, 2016, and 2019.

Due to having an average of 5 wins per season in 2017 and 2018, Navy was more of a Tier 2 team during those two seasons.

Navy could have been, but wasn't described as a Tier 3 team in 2018, because the emphasis is more on the program than on specific seasons.

Yea I believe these tiers have to do with the AAC and recent seasons.

So like from 2013 on

I would put UC, USF, and Memphis in T2. UCF and UH T1. Even tho with UH’s 4-8 and UCF’s 0fer season the win totals may not be that skewed but if your team hasn’t won a NY6 game or a major P5 win like top 10 ranked you should be disqualified from T1.

CFB fans might consider a top 25 top 30 caliber program to be Tier 1, without meeting more stringent criteria in a 3-Tier system.

Tier 1 25-30 programs (#1-#30)

Tier 2 50 programs (#31 - #80)

Tier 3 50-60 programs (#81 - #140)
