It wasn't scheme, both the Marshall OL and DL pushed Appys OL and DL around. They done what they wanted the whole game. Marshall done something to Appy that had not been done to them since 2013 and that was to hold Appy under 10 points, at Georgia. Marshall also held Appy to only 96 yards rushing.

Appys 96 yards rushing is the most Marshall has give up this season:

EKU 86
Appy 96
WKU 85
LA Tech 7

Yes that 7 is right. Before LA Tech's last drive it was -2.

Just to show how good Marshall's defense is, here are Appy's rushing totals for their other games:

Charlotte 308
Campbell 404
Arkansas State 305

That game was won because of a few things. Marshalls OL and DL dominance, Marshalls 216 yards rushing and the 2 timely plays of Steven Gilmore INT at the half and Brandon Drayton's Peanut punch and Nazeeh Johnson's recovery in the end zone.

Marshall also left at least 14 points on the field also.

Your obsession with proving yourself is bizarre. That was the worst game i've seen app state play since 2017. App lost that game as much as marshall won it.

yes, marsha schemed us very well, and took better advantage of lucky breaks, and made a few great individual plays.

it was a great performance by the marsha d. Your offense did just enough.

maybe there is a rematch in a bowl, or we just wait until next year.

I think the other side of this is that this game obviously meant a lot more to marsha than to App. They clearly had more energy, and prepared more.

I mean they gave their coach a Gatorade bath for winning an OOC G5 home game. Which honestly, I get. Beating App is a big deal.

HerdZoned is the poster that repeatedly told me they would never play in Boone when App moved to the SBC. Three months later that crow was tasty when we announced a H&H.

Marshall fans like him is why App fans from the 90s will never pull for Marshall.

This year is gonna be a treat and hopefully App finds its way back into the rankings. That game will deserve the eyeballs

I've been out of football for a few weeks, but was happy to see Coastal finally get ranked as you've deserved it and are really helping out the conference since you joined.

That said, I think it's great that the Sun Belt's had three different teams ranked during this season so far. It'd be great by season's end if we could have two in the final top 25. The way the top tiers of the conference is playing it might be possible.

I was at the game, and Marshall played a great game and has a really good team. But, Herdzone you are definitely a homer if you watched that game and think Marshall completely pushed App around. You mentioned that you out rushed App, but left out the fact that App had 26 first downs to Marshall's 22. Also, you left out the fact that App passed for 268 yds. to Marshall's 183 yds. Kick return yds is also part of the game which App had 74 yds. versus Marshall's 56 yds. So, total offense for App 438 yds. and Marshall 455 yds. The game I saw was a nip and tuck affair with Marshall coming out on top, and a great win for a very good Marshall team.

I was also at the game with a close friend. Let us look at this objectively, Pearson was out, Williams was out, Cory Sutton, and Raekwon Anderson opted out, Virgil was banged up, Ross left the game in the 2nd quarter along with Zac Crosby. Hennigan was playing with a sore hamstring. That is 3 of App States starters out before the whistle blew. And 4 major contributors out. Along with App State's FG kicker had a bad ankle. And with all that App State was still in the game.
Congrats to Marshall. But in all reality App State was missing a boat load of players and then they made mistakes all over the field. App State would have lost to just about anyone that day. It happens kudos to Marshall. This happens Marshall jumps out once every 4-5 years and does well. I know I have to listen to my wife's family they all went there (Marshall). App State had 2 brand new running backs trying to find their way in that complicated run scheme ASU uses. When Marshall beats someone like Cincy then I will be impressed. Good luck the rest of the way. Remember you come to Boone next year. Fact of the matter Marshall is a great team, with no injuries and a great OL with an NFL running back to boot. Tell your AD to play App State every year. I am sure ASU will fit you guys in.
