RE: A-State fires DC/Defensive Pass Game Coordinator
Probably won’t be major news here but the idea of Anderson firing a coach who he describes as a long term friend and AStatw agreeing to pay his buyout is almost inconceivable

RE: A-State fires DC/Defensive Pass Game Coordinator
I've thought a lot of things Ark State has been doing with their defensive front this season are really strange.
I'm obviously no professional, but when you recruit quick and undersized defensive linemen as Ark State does I would think you need to be blitzing more instead dropping 8 guys into coverage.

I think Duggan became so concerned about the holes in the defensive backfield he decided that we needed to do whatever we could to provide them help. The reality is, we're not a great defensive team regardless of who calls plays. But we don't have to be a good defensive team to win the league with our offense. We just need to be average. Most of us as fans can stomach giving up a couple big plays knowing it gives us the ball back fast if we can trade it out for forcing more turnovers.
We have to put pressure on the QB and force them into mistakes if we're going to have a chance on that side of the ball. Our offense is frankly good enough to score 40 every game if the opposing team doesn't hold the ball for 8 minutes at a time. We just need a defense that can hold a team in the low 30's.

Georgia State’a DC wasn’t even in Jonesboro last Thursday. I think he was in COVID protocol.

ARKST's next three games will be a big test for that philosophy. I personally think you'll need to better than average on defense to have a shot at the title. I don't think you'll be able to consistent score in the 40's against APP, Louisiana, and Troy. But win all three and you're looking at a league title unless Coastal goes undefeated.

You'll forgive me if I have no faith in being able to simply outscore the opponent. That works against teams with a defense that is about as bad as ours. But the rest of the league isn't close to Georgia State bad on D. No offense intended to Gstate fans.

Pinkham did absolutely nothing at UMass, especially recruiting on defense.
The only time spoke with him was during an event at the MAssachusetts Club where you could see Logan International Airport. He told me his wife was flying in and Mrs Whipple was picking her up at Bradley, between Springfield and Hartford.
Said to him, she could have flown in over there, pointing to the airport and thinking, they are not invested in UMass.

Our history with Troy is a High Scoring Football game. App and UL are other stories, but App is coming off Covid, and UL is a rivalry game.
I just don't think its possible to hold our offense under 30 without doing what Coastal did and completely controlling time of possession. UL is probably the best example of a team left on our schedule who can do that.
My biggest concern with App is we're not going to have Rice for the first half, and our defense overly relies on him to make the stops we get.

Including Troy in the same conversation as Louisiana and APP on defense is ridiculous . . .
