RE: Winter Athletes Get Extra Year Of Eligibility
didn't winter athletes play last year? and aren't they going to play (at least at a lot of schools) this year?

so why do they get another year? I am confused.

The same reason fall athletes got another year: because the number of games will be reduced and there's a strong likelihood games will be cancelled because of covid.

Agreed, especially since all athletes will also likely be able transfer once without having to sit out a year. There's a new NCAA proposal that will allow all athletes to transfer once without sitting out a year, starting in 2021. It will be voted on in January.

An unknown number of these athletes will not use the extra year just to play a sport...many will have and want to move on to a
job or graduate school and not hang around another year for their sport.

There will be an awful lot of grad transfers available.

Programs will force out 5th year seniors who won't play in favor of top recruits, or some "recruits" will lose their scholarship offers.

It will be quite an interesting recruiting season.

For us, think about our current freshman class, we could have them for 5 years without having to redshirt them. It also means we could have 4 years of Yuri and Tyler in the backcourt together.

It’ll be interesting to see how it impacts recruiting going forward and if certain players currently on rosters are encouraged to take the extra year and others encouraged to move on.

I certainly agree some Seniors will take jobs and move on but I’m really curious how it impacts classes behind them, transfers and recruiting.

What a thing for our coaches to juggle.

Viewing this selfishly, it seems like this will help us weather a gap year in recruiting from the coaching change.

Thinking about the women's team, we've got a ton of talent on the roster now. Keeping then together for a couple of years could be really good. We had a season that should be built upon this year.
