Conference Championship game finally moved
To Friday December 18th. It's about damned time they got around to this.
The next announcement should be Rice at Marshall has been rescheduled for the week of 12/5 and UAB at Rice has been rescheduled for the week of 12/12.

RE: Conference Championship game finally moved
Quote:Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Wednesday the date of the 2020 Ryan C-USA Football Championship has been changed to Friday, Dec. 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
The shift of the championship game from its originally scheduled Dec. 5 date creates two additional weeks to schedule games that were postponed due to COVID-19-related issues. Dates and matchups for those re-scheduled games will be announced at a later date.
Hopefully the conference will announce those matchups more than 2 or 3 days in advance. But with Judy at the helm, we can't be sure of that.

Sounds like Judy has been reading our threads here. I expect these games to get played:
FAU @ USM (reschedule from earlier ppd)
Rice @ Marshall (reschedule from earlier ppd game)
UAB @ Charlotte

well, maybe, maybe not
If you guys want to forfeit the Marshall game, then you can play Houston. Otherwise you owe Marshall that postponed game.

Reasonable solution. I find it somewhat strange that it is going to be on Friday, but from the standpoint of it being the only game on TV it may actually work out to our advantage, so we can broadcast our top talent without competition from other conferences.

The MAC is also playing their CCG on Friday 12/18 so some competition.

I wonder at what point the thought that the average historical evening temperature in Huntington, WV on Dec. 18 is below freezing will start to enter people's mind?
Day games are fine. We usually get into the upper 40s then. But if everyone is still having to wear masks, those things are going to freeze up and be absolutely miserable for absolutely everyone for an evening kickoff.
Only sensible solution is to move the game to Rice?!

We really need to get our CG moved to ESPN. Can't believe our CG is still on CBSSports considered how higher-tiered the channel has become in many tv company's lineup packages. CBSSports used to be on many of the same tier packages as ESPN 1/2...now on many, the channel has been moved up to higher $ premier packages that many people don't have as much as they used to 5+ years ago.

The weather in Huntington was likely not a consideration. Since the ncaa said wins don't matter this year for bowl eligibility the cusa admins decided wins did not matter for the CCG either. Therefore the game will be held between UTEP and which ever school in the east division was willing to fly to El Paso since the weather there will be fabulous! Just passing along the most likely reasoning.

if course, I expect this will be modified to a minimum number of games, but as of now...
Well, since 0-0 is undefined mathematically, I can see the CUSA office creating a definition for it and awarding the Championship game to Rice. Hell, even awarding you the championship due to the DavidSt CUSA power index poll he creates.

Conference Championship game finally moved
Rice is now up to #5 in Texas among the 12 D1/FBS teams in the Houston Chronicle’s latest ranking.
All good things must end, though, and it seems we will actually start playing (and losing) football games starting this weekend.
It’s been a great ride though!!!

I deliberately left out 0-0 for that reason. In any case, that number will soon belong solely to ODU. Rice is planning to start play soon.
But according to the news flash, percentage will be the determinant, which has its own inherent inequities.
I am reminded of the situation in the NFL many years ago, when the bar bet was was which NFL team would be higher ranked, one that was 1-0-13 or one that was 13-1? The winner, for a fifty cent draught, was the 1-0-13, since at that time ties were left out of the equation.
If, as i suspect, there is a minimum number of games required, and that number is greater than 6, than Rice is SOL. But they could instead institute a lower minimum. Right now, effectively, the minimum is 1.
