Tell me something good
Fellow Dukes fans,
Times are tough out there. 2020 just isn't the year. A seemingly never-ending pandemic drags on. We're 3 weeks out from a very polarizing Presidential election. There hasn't been a JMU sports event for seven months (worst off-season ever). Lots of families have suffered loss of a family member, taken a hit to their income, increased stress & anxiety, etc. We're supposed to be spending every other weekend tailgating in the Burg with each other right now but instead the parking lots are empty. Homecoming would be 3 weeks away. We all miss Rootin for the Dukes.

What's good in your life lately? Share a positive tidbit or story!

For the most part, Mrs DN & I have gotten to see all of our immediate family in the last 2 months or so - some as long as last November - so that's been nice. Work has also been really good lately (although it's put a major dent in my CSNBBS activity). Planning to get in the Atlantic Union Bank center in the next 3 weeks for a tour.

Take care of yourselves, your families, and our msg board fam too.

I've gotten a ton of projects done around the house and the orchard. In some ways this has all been a reset for me. This sucks for all of us.....but we have to make the best of it as life goes on and our own lives keep passing us by as this drags on. Best wishes to JMU fans and their families.

This has been arguably my greatest fishing season in a very long time. Able to "work remotely" aka just go out on the boat whenever there's a nice weather window.

If any dukes near NJ/NY want to get out for some fall fishing let me know and i'll be happy to take them out

Salt water or fresh water- where do you usually go out in NJ?

As you may be able to sense from my Dukes posts I am an optimist and try to look for the bright side or silver lining in most things- life’s too short to get frustrated or be jaded or angry Imo.

I think years from now when this is behind us we will look back on the time spent with Family fondly- this has been a reset and an opportunity to go back to basics and I believe our quality of life, priorities and work life balance will improve going forward.

Lots of sports coming back after a months long hiatus.

With all the rain in the Mid Atlantic, my lawn has never been greener, and the phrase "water shortage" is a distant memory.

Enjoying fall weekends free from work. Haven’t had my fall weekends unimpeded by marching band since 1996. I miss it, but enjoying the weather and the fishing!

My nieces have been wonderful about sharing videos and pictures of my five-month old great nieces. Even though I have not been able to travel to Illinois to meet them yet (hoping for Thanksgiving!) seeing the pictures and videos is almost as good. They both make me smile every time I see them. Can't wait to snuggle with them - with a mask of course :-).

My wife can cut my hair as well as the Hair Cuttery stylists (less the sideburns). Razor with the sled things work great! And I have a ton of hair.

I now let her cut it 2 of 3 times.

Saves time. (hate going up there and finding out 30-60 minute wait)
Saves money.

RE: Tell me something good
Life has slowed down with work from home.
Feels like the daily rat race of wake up, commute, work, commute has ended.
I've seen my kids more than I ever have.
House/lawn has never looked better.
I hope this causes employers to continue to examine flexible work situations and schedules.

I've lost 30 lbs since late March from cutting down on my drinking, diet and running/walking, so that's nice.

If there's any positive from this pandemic, it's that it has shown most of the professional world can function remotely from home or other locations. The fallacy put on by our bosses that we have to come in was exposed as just that.

I'm hoping that it results in leadership at my employer taking work life balance/telecommuting more seriously for any and all positions that can realistically do it.

RE: Tell me something good
I got my real estate license - something I've always wanted to do and try but never made time or willing to walk away from my book of business in my previous sales role... once that was decided for me, it was a no brainer, nice to flex a new muscle.

edit: what type of agent would I be if I didn't use my network - if you know anyone moving to or from the Chicagoland area, shoot me a PM here! I've joined a small team with over 60 years of experience in the city and suburbs so I won't be going at it alone.

RE: Tell me something good
Worked from home since March. Therefore, I get to help my kids start virtual school in the morning, hang out and do stuff like play in the backyard during lunch breaks, and since nobody can see the bottom half of me on video chats I only have to be business casual on the top half. Haven't worn long pants or even shorts with a button in seven months. (I wore my nicest sweatshorts on Easter and Mother's Day; pulled it off successfully.) Also, not driving a car for anything other than occasional curbside pickup is pretty awesome.

Moved back to the East Coast, lost 50 pounds doing keto (it works!). Took a keto break during our move. I want to lose 50 more pounds to get back to my fighting weight. Being back on the East Coast has allowed my wife and I to spend lots more time with our family, especially our four kids and six grandkids, as well as making it possible for us to see many more Dukes games live. Life is good!
