Not one of the all-time great plays, but one that I can still see vividly like I was still at the game watching it unfold.
Keith Lee's free throw/dunk at the line in the Mid-South Coliseum vs Iona, 12/22/84.
The game had been a bit rough. The refs were letting them play apparently. Lee was fouled and went to the line.
He misses the front end of 2. The ball bounced off the rim to Baskerville (I believe). He tossed it to Lee at the stripe. Lee looked at the ref who shrugged his shoulders.
All of a sudden Lee rumbles down the lane and slams it.
I recall thinking, "What the heck is he doing? He's lost it." He had been getting hammered all game and I thought he had had enough.
Turns out, it was a 1-on-1, not a shooting foul.
Everybody in the building, including the players on the court, thought it was a 2 shot foul. Only Lee and the ref knew.
When he missed the first FT, Baskerville got the Rebound. He then got the Assist with the pass to Lee.
