RE: Most Memorable Tiger Basketball Play of All-Time
I didn't see this one mentioned, but that John Mac 3 as the clock ran down to send the Bradley game into overtime back in 87. Start at 5:55 in video below to see play. That was a hell of a game all around, so much emotion after losing Gray/Alexander, ranked opponent, coming back from 7 late for a OT thriller. I think Hawkins may have ben leading nation in scoring, and Les was leading the nation in assists. Great memories.

that's up there for me....clutch

I also remember Dwight Boyd's dunk facial over LaBradford Smith at Freedom Hall

You may be thinking of Barry Sumpter in January 1985. I’ll never forget that one. Memphis State @ Louisville on national TV (big deal back then). 6’3 freshman Dwight Boyd’s coming out party as he puts up 16 off the bench. Drives the baseline and slams over the 6’11 Sumpter. There was once a YouTube of it out there, but it was taken down some time ago.

you're correct....that one!

I tried to find it on youtube because I had seen it before.

Bravo. Should have known tigerjeb would have it tucked away.

The audio isn't synced properly, but here it is.

We had talent on that team for sure

If either Black stays or Pellom doesn't get hurt we are at least a Sweet 16 and probably Elite 8 team.

I remember that game well.

The Bradley Coach was Dick Versace who had a later connection to Memphis.

In 1999, Versace was named President of Basketball Operations for the then-Vancouver Grizzlies. After one season in Vancouver, the Grizzlies were relocated and became the Memphis Grizzlies. And in 2002, the Grizzlies hired NBA legend Jerry West as President of Basketball Operations, and Versace assumed the role of General Manager and remained with the team through the end of the 2004-2005 season. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Versace worked for Michael Heisley's acquisition team as Versace oversaw Heisley's pursuit and ultimate purchase of the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Former Grizzlies Director of Player Personnel Tony Borone was a Assistant Coach for Bradley during that game vs. the Tigers.

RE: Most Memorable Tiger Basketball Play of All-Time
May have been mentioned. We are playing in ST Louis and they score to go ahead with a few seconds left. Cedric Henderson quickly throws a full court pass to Mingo (?) who lays it in at the buzzer to win. Four points scored in about five seconds.

Keldrick Bradford's half court shot for the win at the Pyramid.

Keith blocking Dell Curry's shot out on the perimeter.

Take your pick, the complete games vs Mich State, Texas and UCLA in 08.

Way too many to choose. One I did see on the list and it is still incredible is the long pass that Penny picked up on the bounce and slammed it down.

That's the one I think about.
Missed FT, everyone thinks it's a 2-shot foul and just stands in place at the lane. Ball casually bounces to Baskerville (I think). Keith is adamantly shaking his hands for Batman to toss him the ball - so Batman does. Keith takes a couple big strides and slams it through.
At least that's how I remember it.
Would love to see video of that. I don't even recall the opponent.

I was there and don't remember who the opponent was but apparently only Keith and the refs were aware of the 1-1 situation.

With Memphis up by 1(?) and time running out, one of the McCray brothers launching a prayer from somewhere near half-court . . . and everyone just knew that the shooter being a McCray and it being that kind of a game the shot had a decent chance of going in . . . until Keith Lee comes out of nowhere and swats it away from behind as it leaves his hands. Game over, crowd goes absolutely crazy. Amazing, that was.

He did the same thing against Del Curry and Va Tech after Curry had hit about three in a row from downtown and the Tigers up by one.

I remember the one that stunned me the most in that moment. It was the junior year of the all-time winningest team in program history. DRose was a freshman. First home game, first offensive play, Rose dropped in a layup, and it was obvious to me he was the best player on the team. I was agape. Many more exciting plays but none more enlightening.

Not one of the all-time great plays, but one that I can still see vividly like I was still at the game watching it unfold.

Keith Lee's free throw/dunk at the line in the Mid-South Coliseum vs Iona, 12/22/84.

The game had been a bit rough. The refs were letting them play apparently. Lee was fouled and went to the line.

He misses the front end of 2. The ball bounced off the rim to Baskerville (I believe). He tossed it to Lee at the stripe. Lee looked at the ref who shrugged his shoulders.

All of a sudden Lee rumbles down the lane and slams it.

I recall thinking, "What the heck is he doing? He's lost it." He had been getting hammered all game and I thought he had had enough.

Turns out, it was a 1-on-1, not a shooting foul.

Everybody in the building, including the players on the court, thought it was a 2 shot foul. Only Lee and the ref knew.

When he missed the first FT, Baskerville got the Rebound. He then got the Assist with the pass to Lee.
