RE: USM fans
Former Cincinnati coach? Excuse me, I believe his last head coaching opportunity was at Marshall University when he became the winningest coach in Marshall history (by win percentage).

RE: USM fans
Seems like Walden is putting together a pretty good coaching staff. Lots of experience with the recent hires.

How do USM fans feel about him potentially being the next HC? Or is that highly unlikely?

He'll need to win out or win CUSA to get the job. That's my opinion. If he were to win the west then he's also get a very strong look (but I just don't see us winning the west).

Our AD is relatively new and Scotty Walden is only 30 years old w/ no previous head-coach experience. I think McClain wants to get "his" guy...as Hopson/Scotty were hired under previous AD's administration.

Walden does actually have head coaching experience at the D3 level, but only for a year or two before coming to Southern Miss.

RE: USM fans
Our fans are split. Most agree he's a great young coach with a bright future. Is he ready to be a FBS HC? If we pass on him and the next coach doesn't take us where we want to be, will Walden be available after a few years as an OC elsewhere? Even if he has the chops, many don't think an internal promotion will reinvigorate a fading fanbase.
