Yes, Tarleton is/was set to play UCLA, Gonzaga, Pepperdine and Texas A&M.

No hate toward NMState or the Enchanted Land West of The Great State of Texas, just bustin' some chops and keeping things loose around here. Nothing personal.

On Tarleton's schedule: you're taking on some ranked schools and that's great, it goes with the attitude we're seeing f
But I noticed that in previous years you haven't scheduled many D-I teams. Looks like the last one was TAMU three years ago. Contrast that with Dixie State, they've played UVU a couple times for direct WAC experience. Aren't you worried about a bit of shock the first time on the court?

Tarleton beat TCU in 2005, Baylor in 2007 and lost to Texas A&M by only 9 in 2007. It's not like Tarleton didn't want to schedule them, D1 schools just didn't want to play anymore after those games. The A&M game in 2017 was to celebrate 100 years in the Texas A&M System.
[/qu

TCU was 6-25 that year and last in the Mountain West, Baylor ended up being a tournament team that year.

Sweet, beat a Tourney team that year.

That's a pretty remarkable rarity. Lower level teams beat D1 teams in exhibition and early season games pretty regularly, but typically very bad teams. My guess would be that its one of the few times a major conference tournament team lost to a D2.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting them to have made the tournament that year but anything can happen in one game, especially the season opener.

Not to rub salt in the wound, GCU lost to D2 Davenport last season; who had recently moved up form NAIA to season prior.

Ouch. I remember Chaminade beating UT. UCLA also lose to Chaminade?

Nice. I'm glad we tip off with GCU at home and get NMSU at home in late February. Should provide a good measure of progress.

RE: Wild speculation about....WAC MBB Schedule
So in terms of desirability
UTRGV - Dixie, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Tarleton
Tarleton - Grand Canyon, Seattle, Chicago St, NMSU
Grand Canyon - Chicago St, NMSU, Cal Baptist, Utah Valley (That is a really good group of home games) - Almost like the WAC wants GCU to succeed with Bryce Drew.
Chicago St - UTRGV, Cal Baptist, Utah Valley, Dixie St
Cal Baptist - Tarleton, Dixie St, UTRGV, Seattle (On paper, this seems the least desirable, both new move ups at home)
Dixie - NMSU, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Tarleton (Close behind Grand Canyon)
Seattle - Utah Valley, Chicago St, NMSU, Grand Canyon (Another good schedule)
NMSU - Utah Valley (the last WAC team to win at the Pan Am), Chicago St, Cal Baptist, UTRGV
Utah Valley - Cal Baptist, Tarleton, Dixie, UTRGV

I'm going to take a glass half full approach. If GCU is truly the second best team, then if we can get 2 road wins against them, perhaps that helps our NET ranking. I happen to think UTRGV may be the second best team in the WAC and we get them at home. November 25th can't get here soon enough...

There it is... Nevermind the fact that NMSU's home conference schedule is 75% identical to GCU's, with both schools hosting UVU, Chicago St, and Cal Baptist. Instead of hosting the #1 team in the conference last year (obviously impossible), the Aggies host previous WAC #2 UTRGV.

The WAC may very well want GCU to succeed with Bryce Drew (as should NMSU and the rest of the conference, tbh) but by this logic, GCU isn't the only one...

You are right Gabe Leadley. At the end of the day, the schedule is going to be unbalanced. I'm sure the schedule was studied like the Zapruder film and every attempt was made to make things as fair as possible.

I think they made the schedule as fair as possible. We all can’t play every good team at home. Maybe some people fear GCU more than the claim.

It does seem to me NMSU got three out of four away games with teams in the lower half.

But maybe I'm just bitter that we'll have to face the Big Bad Wolf away, twice, in two days.
