RE: Wild speculation about....WAC MBB Schedule
Played 10 times from 07-13 and will be 7 years since their last matchup. In that time ACU has done well in D1, things could be different but they might not. ACU should be a more winnable game than Pepperdine.

Beat ACU and whatever else happens out of conference is gravy as far as I'm concerned.

What did Shaka do?
I think what Shaka did was be merely good when they wanted outstanding. Winning records but middle of Big12 rankings, no conference championships, no going deep in the NCAA tournament.
Some coaches are better suited for mid major and some for P5. Shaka is a perfect example of that. He would have a powerhouse in VCU if he had stayed.
That is my theory as well. Guys like Shaka and Jans have systems to take down P5’s.
For coaches like Shaka Smart, the problem lies with the blue chip players available to the program. Shaka Smart built his reputation on recruiting overachieving athletes (mainly 2, 3, and 4-star players) who played a highly active full court style of basketball. At Texas, Smart has access to 5-star recruits. But that is a double edged sword. These type of players (one-and-done) dictated the chemistry and style of specific Longhorn teams but do not stay long enough in the program for Smart to build his desired system around. One year, Shaka might have a 5-star shot blocking center on his roster only to lose him to the draft. Then the following year it might be an ultra talented shooting guard on the roster. Each year, players like these change the dynamic on the team. Only Calipari and Coach K have mastered the practice of recruiting and winning with predominantly one-and-done players. Both coach's programs are built by recruiting enough of these type 5-star players each year to overcome any chemistry problems with sheer talent on the court. And each Wildcat and Blue Devil team takes a life onto its own. But even then, given the talent each of these coaches stockpile each year, they do not win as many Championships as they should given the amount of lottery picks that come out of each program. So, getting back to Shaka Smart. A coach like him prospers when he can establish his system around 3 and 4 year players; players who stay in the program long enough to build a culture. One and Done "alpha" type players actually disrupt that process. So, yes, I agree with you guys. Some coaches are better suited as mid-major coaches. Or, at least not at programs, where the booster and fans faithful expect a coach to recruit and build his program around a few one-and done lottery pick players each year; like at Texas.
Good stuff Pistol. This is exactly what I was trying to say in one sentence. Some folks have systems meant to thrive in a P5 environment. And some have systems designed for mid-majors. I think Mark Few was similar to Jans/Shaka at one point, but slowly built his program to look more like the P5 blue bloods. Recall, too, that Coach K refused to recruit the one-and-done's for many years, before doing a 180 and embracing them.

Yep, the kid's just following the other "experts" and piling on BCG for his past transgressions. And that's fine; just funny to have it come from a guy that was barely out of diapers when "Billy Clyde" last coached D1.

Chicago State over IUPUI by 5 pts.
Texas over UTRGV by 12 pts.
Tarleton over Dallas Christian by 18 pts.
Grand Canyon over Grambling by 10 pts.
USC over Cal Baptist by 12 pts.

A Chicago St win over IUPUI would be a great start to the season.

IWULT posted on the Chicago State forum that IUPUI was cancelled and replaced with a tournament including Ohio on Wednesday, Illinois on Thursday, and NCA&T on Friday.
