In the spring of 2015 UAB WAS OUT OF C-USA. All UAB had to do was tip its hat to the conference, wink and smile for them and walk out the door closing it behind us. We would have been an independent school able to join whatever conference's invitation we wished to accept It was UAB's plea for forbearance over the termination of our football program that caused the conference to give the Blazers two nonplaying seasons to get back on the field. I'm sure there are C-USA members who remember that year.

That was then and that was necessity of the time. That period is over and has nothing to do with the future. UAB has to look out for UAB's best possible situation and C-USA is no longer it. If you don't think that each and every one of the 13 schools wouldn't stab us in the back to get a leg up, you are sadly mistaken.

So we beat them to it? Just for the record, what conferences have been banging on Mark Ingram's AD door enticing UAB to jump from C-USA to their loving embrace?

As Jeff Foxworthy says "When your girlfriend says 'We need to see other people, chances are she has already cut one out of the herd'" UAB had better know where they will land before they jump from a pretty good airplane. We don't have Gene Bartow around to use his considerable reputation to get us into another conference like he did getting UAB into C-USA.

Wow. Of course, UAB would definitely have a landing spot secured before any announcement of leaving were to ever be made. And at this point there is no "on the record", but there are efforts are finally being made behind the scenes to improve our athletics situation. The new stadium, all the other completed improved facilities and those on the drawing boards and the new donor initiatives are all very important parts of those efforts. There is only one realistic and currently suitable landing spot full of old conference mates. Hopefully our efforts will end up landing us there in the not too distant future.

MVC? 'Cause you know their basketball is a LOT better... We can do indy in FB. Never forget we are a BASKETBALL school!

DALLAS – Conference USA will be making adjustments to its regular season conference scheduling and Championship formats for Men’s and Women’s Basketball, as approved by the league’s Board of Directors.

This season, the league will move to a new 18-game regular season format for conference play that focuses on the health and safety of student-athletes. In this format, schools will play two games per visit at four select C-USA schools and host four select teams for a two-game series, while playing a rival opponent one time home and away.

Moving to this schedule format will significantly reduce the amount of travel during conference play, with the aim of minimizing the risks associated with COVID-19. Additionally, the final week of the regular season may be utilized to re-schedule any postponed games.

The Championship format will return to its familiar 12-team field that it has utilized for the past several seasons. The top 12 regular season finishers in conference play will qualify for the Championship.

The 2021 C-USA Basketball Championships presented by the Baylor, Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star are scheduled for March 10-13 in Frisco, Texas. This will be the fourth year that the event will be held in Frisco.

Regular season Conference play for both men’s and women’s basketball is scheduled to begin on December 31.

“Sure would be nice if...” is the default start of a sentence regarding CUSA

Yikes. They need to offer half a season ticket ... it includes a ticket for one game of each set ... half the price.

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanHoops

Sun Belt has revamped its plan. Will still play 18 games, but will split conference into divisions and teams will only play 4 teams within their division. Will also play rival home-and-home. Games on Friday’s and Saturday’s against the same team. League games will start Jan. 1.

CUSA BB Scheduling Info
How in hell does this make any $$ sense at all? If I pay to see UAB v USM on Thursday, there is no motivation to see that again on Saturday. And if I plan to attend the game on Sat, why would I buy tickets for Thursday. Already splitting what is a very small pie to begin with...

I don't think $$ is the main focus at the moment. With there only being roughly 2200 seats available, and the excitement of HCAK being here, I don't think they are worried about attendance being an issue this year. Even if we "sellout" the 2200 seats, revenue is going to be down. (well, not really over recent years, but...)

The NBA plays same opponent home and home on occasion in regular season and in the playoffs. Its a good way to evaluate how well a team can make adjustments and there is more strategy involved. I think it favors well coached teams.
I think its a good idea for 2021. Folks might enjoy it.

Sources: Conference-USA is considering playing its league games back-to-back on Friday/Saturday this season instead of Thursday/Saturday for safety purposes. Games will be held at same location. ADs are expected to vote this week on ruling.

Don't be surprised if the games are Friday night and Saturday early afternoon so travel can be Friday morning and Saturday evening.

Maybe they can put cots in the locker rooms so they don't even have to leave the building.

Be careful... still time for CUSA to push for doubleheaders

At this point, what's the difference? If you have a guy tweak a hamstring that could do w/ a day of rest/ice, he can just rub some dirt on it and get back out there.
