Hey Rice....are you in or out?
Hey Rice, what's the latest with your football season? Are you guys in or out? You've already missed 5 playing dates this season, including the last two weeks games scheduled against Marshall and UAB.
Now I look up and you guys have an open date this coming weekend on 10/17. That's 6 weeks of wasted scheduling opportunities. WTH is going on with you guys?
What is the latest your administration is saying? If you're not playing in 2020, will you be informing your remaining opponents soon?

Well, I don't doubt that. A lot of us had open dates that we had to rush to fill, just to get extra games on the schedule. But I never detected much enthusiasm on Rice's part to fill that date. LOL!

I think the Admin looked at it a logical place to draw the line, which would jibe with not being eager to fill the date.
Look, HD, your guess is as good as mine. We might as well conclude it was a conspiracy with extraterrestrials for all the first hand knowledge either of us have.

Rice hasn't played football for more than a decade...you guys are just now noticing?

Look, I'm not trying to give you Rice guys a hard time at all. You gotta do what you gotta do. I'm just trying to find out what that final "gotta do" is.
As you know, we're getting deeper in the 2020 season, and LA Tech still has Rice scheduled for 11/14 in Ruston, which is only a month from now. Tech fans would like to see Tech fill that date with someone else if Rice isn't going to play us. Furthermore, without Rice, LA Tech only has 4 home games this season.

What is the specific reason Rice hasn’t played any games? Players testing positive?

You know as much as we Rice fans do. My impression is that we are moving (very) cautiously ahead with plans to play the rest of the season, including your game. There is no plan to cancel any more games, but if the circumstances warrant, any or all further games could be canceled. I think it is a week by week decision. The arbiter of "if the circumstances warrant' is probably the Rice President.

I think mostly it is an abundance of caution. First LSU canceled their game with us. Then we canceled the Army and Houston games, which I opposed, much like I oppose hurricanes. Then Lamar canceled our game leaving just the conference slate. Then we canceled the first two conference games, which were followed by an open date, giving us presumably three more weeks to test and see what happens.
It seems like these measures are working, for the University as a whole:
NBC News
...which presumably is De. Leebron's primary goal.
Most of the Rice fans are not happy with how things have worked out for the football team or any other team, but we might as well be mute - we have no influence.

Well said. We are frustrated for you. Realize, we may give each other a hard time on these boards, however, none of us have any control over what the president's decide.
I personally believe the UAB and Marshall games should count as "forefits." Particularly if Rice has no intention on rescheduling, and as it seems, CUSA will not force the issue.

Honestly, forfeit wins for UAB and Marshall ease a lot of burden and undo stress later on in the year.
It leaves open the possibility of a more natural completion of the season. Currently, the unbalanced conference schedule would require UAB and Marshall to play just for the chance of CUSA eligibility.
Our programs, UAB and Marshall, are on the brink of ineligibility. That is a direct complication of Rice delaying it's season.

Technically those games are listed on our site as "postponed", while others are listed as "cancelled". I don't know what the difference is technically, but it may give Rice an out.
This is a unique season - even more so than any WW II season. There are no precedents.
Yes, we are all powerless, unless some of us are major, major donors. that is why I think the realignment threads are so useless. Might as well have me and you decide on the best approach to world peace.

Sorry about that. Not my decision. I suspect it was not the choice of our coach and our AD, either.
I guess 6 games is not enough then, so Rice has made itself ineligible, too, I guess.
One of the big gripes we have with the Admin is the low priority they give athletics. I guess this is just another example.

Postponed gives them an opportunity for a rescheduled December 5th or December 12th match up.
If Rice has no intention of doing that, then they just need to cancel and give the forfeit win to UAB and Marshall.
I believe it's more of an outright canceled situation than a postponement, but the conference office needs to receive that clarification from Rice.
They are purposely waffling to leverage their power. by doing so, it leaves the other programs vulnerable. It's really a crap spot you guys have put us in, honestly.

Gosh, I am sorry. i didn't realize. I will take immediate steps to alleviate your distress. I will get on the phone and tell them to get off the pot.
Now speaking as an observer (I am not even in Houston), I doubt there is a plan to NOT make them up. Nor is there a plan TO make them up. I think the only plan is to keep their options open and see how things work out.
On other things within my control, nice weather in Idaho, isn't it? Thank you very much and remember to tip your servers and bartenders.

Coach Clark at UAB has publicly stated on his radio show that the UAB-Rice game will only be made up if it effects determining the West Division champion. Why there has been no public statement from the C-USA office to that effect is unfathomable.
Personally, I think Rice should be made to forfeit both games. Postponing because you couldn't field a viable team is one thing, but postponing because you chose not to even attempt to field a team on those Saturday's is another.

This is another example of how weak our CUSA Leadership is. All other conferences seem to have a plan to make up games or not, but this league. No wonder schools want out!
