Marshall is also currently projected to return 8 of 11 starters on defense next year.

Let that sink in.

If Brad Lambert leaves to take a P5 coordinator job, that could be a major blow. I think his hand is all over that defense.

Not gonna happen. He won’t be a P5 DC. Maybe an assistant. I doubt he leaves. Rumors are he is on the short list for our HC when Doc retires

I would be more than okay with that!

One of the criticisms Charlotte fans had against Lambert was his recruiting. As long as we can continue to pull together a very robust recruiting staff, Lambert can focus on the X's and O's.

I also truly believe Charlotte fans did not grasp how much of a task it is for any new coach to start a brand new program.

I could absolutely see a guy like Lambert learning from his mistakes, and improving upon them in his next stint.

You cannot dispute his ability to coach a defense.

Yeah, I was very puzzled by that out of nowhere post.

FAU has an interesting situation where due to COVID and injuries, starters have not been a consistent group. Regardless, we have suffered huge losses due to transfers and graduation last Summer. But defense markedly improved.

I agree, I had said this in other posts, but FAU and Marshall have very similar chemistries this year.

Losing Nazeeh Johnson a kid who came in as a walk on and has become one of the best safties in CUSA will be a big loss. But then again I thought the same thing about Omari Cobb and Chris Jackson and we have had players step up and arguably been better with Eli Neal, Abraham Beauplan, Micah Abraham and in the last few games the emergence of Joshua Bowers. So hopefully next year we have kids like Charles Bell VI, Rashawn Hunter and Cedrick Wilcox step in and step up.

Who’s not coming back? You think we are putting 3 into the NFL?

Free Safety Nazeeh Johnson, Cornerback Jaylon McClain-Sapp and Linebacker Tavante Beckett are all Redshirt Seniors.

I don't think everyone who gets this year as a free year will come back. Tavante Beckett, Nazeeh Johnson and Jaylon McClain-Sapp are all seniors.

I think Marshall has anywhere between 4-6 maybe 7 players to potentially be taken in the draft in 2021: RG Cain Madden, RT Josh Ball, TE Xavier Gains and LB Tavante Beckett are the most lilely to go somewhere in the draft but then you have guys like: LT Will Ulmer, FS Nazeeh Johnson and CB Jaylon McClain-Sapp. If not drafted I expect each of them to get a UDFA contract somewhere.

Would I like for all of them to return next year and hopefully have a non Covid year, yes. But thats extremely unlikely.

I love Beckett, but he is way to small to be an NFL linebacker. His only shot is to run well enough to be considered a safety prospect.

Sam Mills says HI. Thats who I think of when I watch Beckett play. Mills was 5'9 220 and Beckett is 5'10 214.

Sam Mills retired 23 years ago and he weighted 232 at the time. Beckett doesn’t have the frame for another 25 pounds he would need. He would be the smallest LB in the NFL.

Mills playing weight while with the Saints, his prime was anywhere between 220-225. He didn't go over 230 until he got to Carolina in 1995. And Beckett could def play at 220.

I believe if Troy Brown could play in the NFL 14 years at WR/KP Returner/Defensive specialist in 2004. Then there should be room for Beckett. Its just a matter of someone giving him a chance. If thats at LB, S or what.

Do you think Beckett is as good as Neville Hewitt? Beckett is quick and has a nose for the ball, but doesn’t shed blocks as well as Hewitt, who also had similar quickness. I hope Beckett makes it and plays 10 years in the league, but if he does it will have to be the same FA route as Hewitt, he won’t get drafted.

Updated.

Marshall is now #2 in scoring defense, FAU at #5.

Interesting fun fact. 7 of of the top 10 scoring defenses do not play in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10 or ACC.
