WHO backflips on virus stance by condemning lockdowns
Quote:The World Health Organisation has backflipped on its original COVID-19 stance after calling for world leaders to stop locking down their countries and economies.

Dr. David Nabarro from the WHO appealed to world leaders yesterday, telling them to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” of the coronavirus.

He also claimed that the only thing lockdowns achieved was poverty – with no mention of the potential lives saved.

“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said.

“We in the World Health Organisation do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr Nabarro told The Spectator.

“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

Dr Nabarro’s main criticism of lockdowns involved the global impact, explaining how poorer economies that had been indirectly affected.

“Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” he said.

“Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. … Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”

Melbourne’s lockdown has been hailed as one of the strictest and longest in the world. In Spain’s lockdown in March, people weren’t allowed to leave the house unless it was to walk their pet. In China, authorities welded doors shut to stop people from leaving their homes. The WHO thinks these steps were largely unnecessary.

Instead, Dr Nabarro is advocating for a new approach to containing the virus.

“And so, we really do appeal to all world leaders: stop using lockdown as your primary control method. Develop better systems for doing it. Work together and learn from each other.”

His message is timely. In a world first, a number of health experts from all over the world came together calling for an end to coronavirus lockdowns earlier this week.

They created a petition, called the Great Barrington Declaration, which said that lockdowns were doing “irreparable damage.”

“As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists, we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection,” read the petition.

“Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health.”

The petition has had 12,000 signatures so far.

It was authored by Sunetra Gupta of the University of Oxford, Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University, and Martin Kulldorff of Harvard University.

When asked about the petition, Dr Nabarro had only good things to say. “Really important point by Professor Gupta,” he said.

Well, as we always suspected, I guess we know what the lockdowns were really for don't we?

Said it from the beginning. The ramifications of lockdowns will be worse than the virus.

Other than overcrowding hospitals there was no need. Time to get back to normal.

Glad the left politicized the virus. More ammo for next debates.

RE: WHO backflips on virus stance by condemning lockdowns
Quote:2009-2010 VP Biden was tapped by President Obama to handle the Swine Flu (H1N1) pandemic. No doubt, Obama was very busy handling other matters like flooding America with people he knew would never assimilate in this country. He was very concerned with purging every federal agency, including the military, of unbiased people and instead, loading all of them with Deep State operatives from middle management on up. So it would be Joe addressing Swine.

Obama-Biden completely ignored H1N1 for six long months. During those six months when, shockingly, it became evident approximately 61 MILLION Americans were infected with this strain of Coronavirus, O-Biden issued orders in late July, STOP TESTING. It is imperative to note, at that point, there were nearly 10 TIMES more Swine cases than today’s COVID numbers. Also important, Swine was a strain of Corona particularly brutal for younger people vs COVID’s more vicious attack on the elderly.

CDC survival rates of COVID, ages 0-19 is 99.997% ages 20-49 is 99.98% ages 50-69 is 99.5% age70+ is 94.6%

358 Swine child deaths; COVID child deaths less than 100*

H1N1 infected as many as 1.4 Billion people and killed as many as 575,400. Of those deaths, 80% were people under the age of 65. This likely because, although Swine was also, “novel,” many older people were previously exposed to strains similar enough to give them herd immunity.

Nearly 68 MILLION Americans were sick, and WITHOUT the massive COVID-like testing, all testing abruptly halted … America, you will NEVER be allowed to know just how devastating that outbreak was. O-Biden, Democrat media, and DS infiltrated CDC, FDA made damned SURE of that.

Read it all here.

Something I’ve been wondering about David....

You are a fierce proponent of lockdowns because it just isn’t safe to be out in the world right now.
Arkansas has been one of the most lax states in regards to lockdowns...

David, have you been out of your house and back in a public place since March, or have you been inside your house nonstop since March? I am genuinely curious if you are practicing what you preach.

Bahahahahaha. Trumps common sense thinking proves to be right again. Will the Dems follow the science now? Will the Dems admit they were wrong? Will Biden admit the Trump Covid reaction turned out to be the best course---striking a reasonable balance between economic issues and public heath issues (which are related---a fact no Democrat ever seems willing to admit).

It was never science. They never had enough data on most of different ideas/topics that came up.

Now sure it was doctors/scientist opinions. And every topic had disagreements.

There was an article in local Newspaper about kids trick or treating and what advice parents to give kids. They asked 4 well respected doctors/directors in then local area about 8 questions IIRC and each gave responses that differed greatly from each other.

This will get the same spin as anything else that goes against what the media has preached for months. Trump failed to listen to the science and only today has new information came out that the science now believe its better to keep the world open.

Better test now allows the country to open up and now we have a better understanding of how to deal with the problem. The President was 100% wrong and still caused 200k in deaths. If Biden wins, this gives the left a good enough reason to open back up and say ..."its not politics, we are following the WHO and science"

WHO's condemning the excessive lockdowns many countries are still imposing.

But should give credit to the USA (and other countries) that largely don't have excessive lockdowns anymore. They don't have the balls to do that tho & we're left to a statement that's open for interpretation
