Better a game without fans than no game at all.

At least Middle Tennessee won't have a home-like atmosphere.

RE: Rice vs. Middle Tenn
I am really perplexed about the logic about not allowing fans for this game. Even without Covid-19, 10,000 fans at best would have probably attended the game and they could have easily maintained social distance and wore masks. They could have at least allowed players' families, season ticket holders and students (not that they come anyway) to attend the game. The notice also said that the next potential game for fans would be November 7 vs. UTSA. What would change between Oct 24 and Nov 7 to allow fans to come to the UTSA game? That game would probably draw more fans since it is UTSA that travels fairly well.

Fans would mean some spreading, or obviously a risk compared to 0 fans. NFL teams did no fans week 1 and this is a college campus. It's the safe thing to do to start and we don't have room for error with the Administration or to play as many games as possible.

My thoughts exactly. Not exactly like there is a large overlap between the university community (namely students/profs) and the people that attend Rice football games (alums and parents, the majority of which aren't going to campus every single day and mingling with the general university population)

There is probably more risk going to the grocery store than attending a game at Rice stadium. So is the Administration afraid that the fans in the stands in an open stadium that at best would be 25% full will spread the virus to the players on the field? Or is it the case that they are afraid that fans will not have enough sense to social distance and spread the virus among themselves. I don't get why the NFL did what they did for the first game and then then allow fans to attend subsequent games. The risk was just as great then as it is now. What is Rice going to do when they play an away game where fans are allowed to attend the game? I just wish Rice would make a decision one way or the other about fans attending home games because I don't understand the metrics they are using to decide that a game two weeks away is too risky to attend, but a game 4 weeks away might be safe to attend.

Metrics? They ain't using no stinking metrics. It's feel-based, not fact-based.

ETA: Thinking it over, probably more accurate to say fear-based, not fact-based.

The Administration is afraid of liability.

RE: Rice vs. Middle Tenn
It certainly appears that way. When I work out at the Rec Center I have to sign a waiver. So, if the Administration is afraid of liability then just indicate to fans that all home football games will be played without fans in attendance. Also, I would assume this policy could eventually apply to home basketball games when that season starts. I just hope when baseball and volleyball seasons roll around we can at least attend those games.

The Administration is afraid of liability.

But once again if this was going to be the policy why wait to be the last team to play...if we play at all which is still in doubt. And, by the way start another support fund for sports that aren't being played in the middle of all of this?

Our mantra should be Rice: Why Bother When We're Rich Already! in all aspects.

Maybe David Leebron could call Renu Khator and see how it went for UH Thursday night with limited fans at TDECU? The real issue here seems economics. Does it just cost too much to clean and staff the stadium for the amount of revenues they expect?

Maybe they could fire Leebron and run the University virtually.

In contrast, having 1000s of random people from all over Harris County coming on campus over a two and half week period every day to vote out at HRS is not a risk.

I see that Brad Rozner has opted out of the 2020 season.
