The notice also said that the next potential game for fans would be November 7 vs. UTSA. What would change between Oct 24 and Nov 7 to allow fans to come to the UTSA game? That game would probably draw more fans since it is UTSA that travels fairly well.

In contrast, having 1000s of random people from all over Harris County coming on campus over a two and half week period every day to vote out at HRS is not a risk.

Ah, yes. Let's equate the value added to society by hosting a polling location to the worth of attending a meaningless football game between two schools that most people don't even know play in the FBS. These two events are surely of equal importance and therefore should be approached with the exact same risk tolerance.

Give me a break. We get it; you're not happy with anything this school is doing about football. At least make reasonable arguments and don't just throw mud at any damned thing that even tangentially involves the university or Rice athletics.

The election will matter more than the football game.

Do you have to donate to the new scholarship fund to get them?

Or maybe this is the way to raise money for that fund.

No, I didn't read the link.

Yep, I think your second sentence is correct...never a miss an opportunity to extort your dwindling fan base!

The specific polling at Rice will not.

More virtual fake experiences just like our class reunion this year will be. Wonder if they will still have an Attack of the Giant Checks. Nothing to go to campus about since early March with the end of baseball so losing the connection to Rice and virtual is not making up the difference. $10 is too much for the fake game experience.

I wasn't planning on being at any of the games this year anyway. Seems like ESPN3 is the streaming site..assuming we play at all. I'm not in the mood for a $10 "virtual" ticket.
I might go old school and just listen to the games...Is JP, et al going to do the broadcast?

RE: Rice vs. Middle Tenn
As of right now, we're still on for Saturday at 2:30 on ESPN3. ? I think JP is doing the internet radio call. He said something to that effect on either The Roost Podcast or the official Rice Owls Insider podcast last week, but they're blurring together by now. He indicated that he won't be on the video crew, but there's some new feature that let's fans sync the audio with video? I'm not sure; there wasn't much detail.

All our media is online-only this year. With the Big Ten and PAC picking up play, I don't expect any of our games to get moved up to national TV like they might have over the past month. We also don't have a radio broadcast deal.

I get this, but that was many weeks ago... and while a college campus, they've been doing it for many weeks as well. You'd think we could 'learn' from them without having to start from square 1 ourselves. Even if it were just families... or maybe families in the lower west and season ticket holders in the upper west, we could easily social distance. Heck, we could give each student that wanted to attend their own section on the east side. Okay, that last comment was snark... but seriously... families would probably be like 200 people max, and season ticket holders (who actually go as opposed to merely showing support... i.e. I used to buy 4, but my daughter and I were often the only ones who went.... I just wanted to be able to invite friends) who could sit in the chair backs with me) couldn't be more than a few thousand.

I don't pay for the games on the internet, so I often listen to the games on the radio. They do a great job.

I just read the link here:

https://riceowls.com/news/2020/10/12/gen...unced.aspx

I don’t think I mind paying Rice $10 directly for the internet game feed. But troubling is the stadium “cardboard cutout” for $50. This hints at no fans all season long. Rice also plans virtual tickets for all home games.

RE: Rice vs. Middle Tenn
FYI, don't know if this has been posted anywhere, but the depth chart for the MTSU game has been released:

Offense

QB: Mike Collins (GR)
HB: Juma Otoviano (SO)
FB: Jaeger Bull (JR)
WR: August Pitre III (SO)
WR: Austin Trammell (SR)
WR: Jake Bailey (SO)
TE: Jack Bradley (SO)
LT: Clay Servin (SO)
LG: Cole Garcia (SO)
OC: Isaac Klarkowski (FR)
RG: Shea Baker (JR)
RT: Jovaun Woolford (GR)

DE: Trey Schuman (JR)
DT: Elijah Garcia (SR)
NT: De'Braylon Carroll (SO)
OLB: Kenneth Orji (JR)
SAM: Treshawn Chamberlain (JR)
WILL: Blaze Allredge (SR)
MIKE: Antonio Montero (JR)
FS: Prudy Calderon (JR)
SS: Kirk Lockhart (SO)
CB: Miles McCord (SO)
CB: Sean Fresch (FR)

K: Collin Riccitelli (GR)
P: Charlie Mendes (FR)

Looks like the following 1Y freshmen are on the depth chart:

Trey Phillippi (2nd string LT)
Braedon Nutter (2nd string RG)
Khalan Griffin (2nd string HB)
Gabe Taylor (2nd string SS)
Jordan Dunbar (2nd string BCB)
Sean Fresch (1st string FCB)

Following RS freshmen on the depth chart:

Izeya Floyd (2nd string LG)
Isaac Klarkowski (1st string C)
JoVoni Johnson (2nd string QB)
Jerry Johnson III (2nd string FB)
Josh Pearcy (2nd string OLB)
Chike Anigbogu (2nd string SAM)
Charlie Mendes (1st string P)

Only seven seniors are listed as starters, and only three seniors are listed as backups.

Secondary look very, very young. Interesting that Collins got the nod over Johnson. I'd rather see Johnson, who showed flashes last season, but this probably means that Bloomgren thinks they have the talent to win a bunch of games. I do hope that if Collins struggles, there isn't a slow hook like we've seen in the past.

For a defense that lost next to nobody to graduation/transfer, I'm surprised to see four new starters in the secondary.

I had been pulling for Jovani as well - both from what we saw last year and the fact that he will be here next year. Bloom said that Collins looked outstanding and just flat out won the job. For what it's worth, he said there were practices where the ball never touched the ground.

I believe Collins has 2 years of eligibility. I'm excited to see him. If he beat out everyone including 2nd year Jovani, that's a very promising sign re: his talent

RE: Rice vs. Middle Tenn
Tuesday's Rick Stockstill show had some interesting info regarding our game with MTSU:

Coach Stockstill said they were effective against North Texas's "statue" QB (Austin Aune, who played the Mean Green's first four series: 1TD, 2INTs & a fumble for a TD), but not against "the speedy one" (Jason Bean, who played the game's final 41 minutes, during which NT went from 7-21 to 52-35).

Our J.P. Heath was a guest, and responding to a question about what he expected to see from the Owls, he said (~38:40): "I talk for a living, but I have no idea."

Stockstill seemed miffed about Rice's COVID-testing requirement: at Rice before they can enter the stadium. (~48:30) They're going straight from the airport to Rice stadium to get tested on Friday and Stockstill will "wake up Saturday morning to learn who's positive." He said the "Conference requires three tests a week at your (own) place. They (Rice) are doing things different. ... It's scary for a coach not to know if he may or may not have their guys" cleared to play the game, until just a few hours before the game.

Regarding the pros & cons of a team that's played 6 games meeting a team that's played none. (~50:20) "All their players will be healthy. But we should be in better game shape. ... They'll have six game tapes to review. ... I'd rather have more than last year's tape."

ESPN now has the Owls with a 90.2% chance of winning. Based on...?????

Must be the same “formula”’ chron.com has the Owls as the #5 D1 team in Texas with a “haven’t played yet, but did scrimmage” record.
