for him to be fired.. i think this has to still be national headline by monday .we'll see

It won’t be and he will be. You can’t punch a player and choke a coach in 2020. He gone. I actually think this is a good thing, WCU will at the least get a big reduction in any buyout and the recruiting circuit had finally caught up to his temperament. That temperament doesn’t fly with todays kids

this comment was made before we knew about racist slurs...
without a massive media campaign by former and active players supporting him at this point he is done for

and he punched a player in 2015

I just read the entire article and as someone who has served in mentoring and leadership positions for young men in a boys home, reading the article has my blood boiling.

Agreed

...I'm not sure they recover for a very long time if ever.

Even if Marshall ends up being fired over this, it might not hurt Wichita State's program much, if at all. In fact, they might be able to hire a (non-abusive) Head Coach who is equally or more effective than Marshall, who is considered by some to have under-performed what had been very high expectations (e.g., no return trips to the Elite Eight).

Wichita State has the financial backing (Koch Brothers) and fan support (attendance) that are required to hire a top-notch Head Coach if Marshall leaves. Due to the program's very long track record of BB success, the Wichita State job would be considered one of the best coaching opportunities in the nation.

To clarify this point, Wichita State had a number of nationally-ranked basketball teams through the decades before Marshall's arrival there, including the following:

A 27-4 team in 1953-54 that attained a #11 ranking in the mid-season AP Top 20.
A 19-8 team in 1962-63 that was ranked #5 in the Final AP Top 20.
A 23-6 Elite Eight team in 1963-64 that was ranked #5 in the Final AP Top 20.
A 21-9 team in 1964-65 that advanced to the NCAA Final Four.
A 26-7 team in 1980-81 that advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
A 23-6 team in 1981-82 that attained a #2 ranking in the mid-season AP Top 20.
A 25-3 team in 1982-83 that was ranked #14 in the Final AP Top 20.
A 26-9 team in 2005-06 that advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

I try to enjoy Mexican food. My GI Tract gives me anger issues with Mexican. It's always under internal investigation by me with questionable cuisines.

I feel bad for Alterique Gilbert. With all the devastating injuries he’s overcome he deserves better than this. Marshall is absolutely one of the best coaches in the country and finding an equal replacement is extremely unlikely.

Not so much from the standpoint of post-season tournament play.

Unfortunately for WSU, Marshall has only managed to to lead the Shockers to the sweet sixteen twice in (2013 and 2015) in the 13 seasons since he became their HC, and only took them beyond the sweet sixteen once.

.

Perhaps they couldn't hire an "equal" replacement, but most of the young, up-and-coming coaches would jump at the chance to take that job, and Wichita State could get their pick of the litter.

Maybe, but the NCAA might have something to say about it if the violations are serious enough.

Hmm... I find this very interesting. If he keeps his job he'll be under a microscope by the media. Just like Bob Knight was in his later days at Indiana. In that case the risk goes on the administration and that is something that could cost them their jobs as well.

RE: Greg Marshall under internal investigation
I wrote this on the Shocker forum but there are 2 pieces here that scream hit job for at least PART of the article.

1. There was a lady "connected" to the program that was saying this was coming early early this week. Rumor is she's heavily involved in this. This same lady has been banned from being near the team due to stalking players MULTIPLE times and trying to be their "unofficial psychologist". She's had an axe to grind against the AD and Coach ever since they told her she wasn't allowed to contact the players anymore. Since she knew about this last week, she was pretty obviously involved in the data gathering part.

2. The 2015-16 stuff is bad and obviously openly corroborated (though maybe not after some posts this morning). The rest of the stuff screams it came from Erik.
Of the Named players that were treated poorly:

Shaq: Obvious but he still stayed all 5 years.
Poor Bear: Was one of the few that chose NOT to even try to transfer, yet was supposedly taunted racially
Echenique: Only here 2 years, but by all accounts had a great relationship with coach
Bilau: Didn't transfer
Udeze: Started to transfer, got high major offers yet STILL decided to come back.
Erik: The obvious source of this

So of all the players mentioned by name that were targets of Marshall's aggression/bad behavior were part of the small subset that actually stayed with the team. Only Erik was a named player that got taunted and left? That is extremely odd.

Erik is the ONLY player that left last year that has not gotten his waiver. It's also been rumored that several current players and recruits have said that he reached out to them to "warn" them of the program after he decided to transfer. According to UW fan boards, UW submitted his request really late for a waiver which screams to me they knew this was coming out.

At least one former player (Cleanthony Early) has come out saying there is no way he believes Marshall would throw around racial insults like that. That's kind of the general consensus from people that know him. He's not racist at all. Nearly all of them would probably believe the anger problems and snapping obviously though.

So I'm leaning towards this is only half true and the other half is hit job. Either way, the damage is done unfortunately and unless WSU can get players on record saying this didn't happen that were supposedly there ... then I don't know if WSU can continue with him or they should anyways.

Just because players decided it was better for their careers to endure the situation doesn't mean the situation was good.

Do you think he deserves to keep coaching if he is throwing around racial slurs, assaulting players and assistants and harassing people who park in his spot? He is an employee of the university...He has to behave like he is.

Actions have consequences...

No where did i defend him. I'm challenging the accusations.

If this is all true he's gone IMO.
If this is part true .. he's likely still gone but really would come down to which parts are true and whether I thought there was a actually successful path forward where he would change so it wouldn't happen again (counseling, monitoring etc etc).

So no I haven't defended any of these SUPPOSED actions. Just challenging the validity of them considering the vast majority of them come from "anonymous" sources.

Is there any truth to this or is this fake news? If a coach punched me he wouldn't walk away very happy. The entire team would step in.
