You’re kidding right?

30-24 over WKU
36-34 over FIU (Failed 2 pt conversion to tie the game)

That isn't exactly setting the would on fire. Without your Auburn transfer at QB you are most likely coming into this game 1-3. Lets not pretend that Liberty is world beaters, thats just not the case. If not for Willis at QB Liberty would be a below avg team.

So if we took away our good players we would be below average. What would happen if another teams good players disappeared?

Not saying we’re “world beaters” .... the kidding was in reference to ULM having a chance. Though I suppose everyone has a “chance”... just highly unlikely.

Granted they looked terrible this season, but ULM seemd to be turning the corner and figuring their offense out against Georgia Southern last week. Gave them a benefit of doubt.

We're playing a bunch of young/inexperienced guys in our secondary right now. We're playing a lot softer to keep them from getting beat over the top which allowed a lot of what you saw against ULM.

Dude, the teams you have played are a combined 1-9 and you’re thumping your chest? That humble pie is going to go well with that crow you’re going to eat when you play a team with a pulse.

From what you said, I feel as if pass-heavy teams like Ark State do really really well against GS. On the flip side, GS defense will play well against run-heavy teams like Louisiana.

That would be correct.

Luckily we don't play stAte this year, and maybe we'll have enough time before playing some of those teams to get guys more comfortable in the secondary. We're also missing starter Kendrick Duncan at S from last year who hasn't been active for any games yet this year but hoping to see him back in the next couple of games. The young guys are showing promise, they've just got to get comfortable in the scheme.

This...is painfully true. Eaglewraith is more optimistic than I am about our defense however. We’ve had defensive pass coverage woes for years now. The last couple of years we’ve been blessed to have good experienced corners to kind of corral the weak point of the defense towards the middle of the field. That experience graduated and so it’s kind of open season out there.

My read on Southern has been that one of the biggest adjustments they have had to make since transitioning to FBS is dealing with a larger group of opponents that are primarily pass first teams.

I just don't think they saw a ton of pass first teams in the SoCon, and transitioning to a league where Troy, Arkansas State, and ULM are all notoriously pass heavy teams has to be an adjustment.

We did fairly well the first couple of years in a 4-2-5 scheme. It also makes the defense's job easier when you pile on points like we did the first couple of years too.

I'm not going to talk about the abortion that was whatever we tried to do on defense in 16/17 cause it was terrible from the jump.

When Sloan brought this hybrid 3-4 we run now, the biggest thing we suffered from was a lot of experience/depth at Safety (turnover headed into 2019 didn't help) and it showed by how teams could pass in the middle of the field. We had a rash of injuries at ILB as well which didn't help either in 2018.

This year, we're down a LOT of experience/talent at corner as well as still dealing with turnover at safety. We moved one of our safeties that's had a good bit of snaps the last couple of years out to corner just to get more experience at that position.

We knew we had a really young secondary coming into this year and you're seeing that pan out. Our defensive front is going through their own struggles at the time too which hopefully will get sorted out. We need more pressure up front to take some stress off the secondary.

It would also help if teams would stop holding Raymond Johnson. I'm sure he'd appreciate not spending most of the game with his pads outside of his jersey.
