He was lit, and could do it all

Plus he married my childhood TV crush

RIP EVH

Oh man, how do you just now find that out?

As the great Joe Dirt once said, Van Halen, not Van Hagar.

Anyone else remember an NCAA Tournament highlights film -- a year when Memphis State was in the tournament in the 80s -- that used "Jump" as the perfect accompaniment?

RE: NTR: RIP Eddie Van Halen
On my 18th birthday in 1978 Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath at the Mid-South Coliseum and absolutely stole the show. Van Halen I was the only album they had released at that point and they played all the songs from that plus some from upcoming Van Halen II and it was loud! They rocked the house and David Lee Roth was all over the place sometimes with a bottle of JD in hand. We left shortly after because BS was so lame by comparison. After that I went to see Van Halen every time they came to MSC and they never disappointed.

Sabbath hated them. By the end of the tour VH was blowing them off the stage every night.

Yeah, EVH also arrived in the studio and rearranged Michael’s “Beat It” arrangement. Laid down tracks, and told Michael “you’ll thank me later” when he arrived later. Michael agreed and kept Ed’s arrangement.

Oh yeah, VH stole the show that night. Everybody was looking around like WTH? They rocked out, what a show. They packed the house each show at the MSC.

I also seem to remember in 1982 (I think) Van Halen kicked off December concerts that had Judas Priest the week after VH, then Prince, then .38 Special and Cheap Trick at the New Years Eve. I mean my gosh, the Coliseum had it going on man.

I was there also. Van Halen lit up the coliseum for sure.

Ozzy wasn't the lead, and neither was RJD. Otherwise, BS would have rocked. They were unique...

Great Thread; VTR!!!! Do Not Move. We had too many EVH riffs in our game day music not to make this TR.

Okay, Monsters of Rock Tour 1988.
Van Halen
Scorpions
Dokken
Metallica
Kingdom Come (Led Zeppelin clone band; also known as band wanna be's)

There is a shocker or 2 in there like how the hell does Dokken get put above Metallica and who the hell is Kingdom Come?

But I remember people bitching about Scorp being 2nd fiddle to VH when VH was -Roth and +Hagar. I think thru the lens of time we'd look at that line up and say; yeah VH is the closer. And then we'd say replace Kingdome Come with a band capable of an original though.

With Sweet Child o'Mine and Paradise City as top 5 hits it shoulda been Guns n Roses.

Concert event #499, 11/10/78. Had to be an incredible show. The link I provided shows the Coliseums concerts in order, dates, and revenue produced. It's just incredible to look at the talent that came through that building.

Also had Billy Joel and Barry Manilow which was actually the highest ticket revenue for all the Dec 1982 concerts.

i was at that show at the liberty bowl
and right now, i dont remember much about it, sad
i remember going up the incline on the visitor side and seeing
a kid passed out, head down the incline and vomit coming out of him

a girl i worked with son was in the front and was crushed against the fence, leaving a mark

i remember a big "food fight" at one point where people were throwing
stuff all over the liberty bowl

good times
