Interesting quote from Hammock in Eddie Carifio's story. (Subscribe to the Chronicle, support local journalism.)
Hammock: "There are guys in the passing game that can make plays. There are guys in the running game that can make plays. The offensive line is very, very solid".

That's exciting to hear since none of that was the case last year. It would be so great to get back to scoring points in bunches.

Has QB Ross Bowers elected to compete in this shortened season? I know his significant other is having a baby so I was wondering if that would lead him to opt out due to health concerns.

Sweet, I think he has the potential to have a great senior year. Hope he can stay fully healthy through the whole (shortened) season.

I hope that Toledo doesn't have a bounty out on him again.

Looks like Patton will be the center this year.

This is encouraging news. They were not speak the same tune last year. There was a lot of missing pieces. Love the fact that these new guys might get opportunities and not lose eligibility.

I like what I see from Connor Neville. He had a rough go at EMCC but the talent is there.

NIU football needs to get back to having the dominant offensive line in the MAC.

Article on today's scrimmage. I presume that Erin Collins and Rondarius Gregory are the top two backs, and it seems like Harrison Waylee is in the running for #3 since his name keeps popping up in these articles. If that's the case, it's interesting that Jyran Mitchell got a lot of carries today along with Waylee. That would mean they were giving Mitchell a hard look. It would be great if they could get something out of him. He was awesome with the ball in his hands in high school. I was pumped when they landed him as a recruit.

My take away from Waylee and Mitchell splitting most of the reps is that the coaches feel really good about Collins, Gregory and Ducker and therefore wanted a nice long look at the next 2 to see where they stand. A final scrimmage is kind of like the 4th pre-season game in the NFL. A chance to get a more in depth look at you're guys that haven't really gotten the focus and the reps as the top of the depth chart was being worked out.

TX Huskies...Iike your comments on the scrimmage as equilvent to NFL exhibition. Hams seems to be very much like NFL especially with his recruiting. The amount of players and speed brought to campus and the 7/24 pace 365 days a year is amazing. His transfers, his walk -ons it's non stop Coast to Coast North to South. He recruits like he has 40 schollies to deal with.

Ironically, I used to work with Conner's father back when I lived in Oregon. Conner has potential. Funny how the world works. I told his dad that he should ho to NIU, I thought he would be a started in 2 years there.
