Feels like Dino is on thin ice (for the record, I like Dino. Heard him interviewed on local radio the last couple of ACC Football Kickoff meetings, and found him engaging. So I am not anti Dino).

Bill O'Brien is the former Penn State head coach, dealing with the most brutal of sanctions from the pedo-scandal. And did better than most people expected, considering.

He's a good coach, but a horrible GM, which is what did him in in Houston.

Seems like this could be a possibility for a great rumor, if nothing else.

I don't get the sense that the mob is ready to run Babers out of town just yet, but as you said, O'Brien wouldn't be a bad hire for 'Cuse.

Correct Mark. Babers is going to get one more year after this one. He's recruited a lot of young talent that are making names for themselves already as true and redshirt freshmen this year. Next year he better have SU in contention as he did in 2018. But if he has to go, I would very much like to get Joe Morehead in as HC. He really was interested in SU back in 2014 before SU hired Babers. Morehead is a really good HC.

On second thought, after googling Obrien he would not be a bad hire. With all those years as an NFL coach, he would be really good at recruiting too. Good call Pervis.

It's funny .... On the Louisville Rivals Premium board I posted this scenario, and I ADDED .. O'Brien could start filling out his staff by bringing Joe Moorhead back east, with the OC/Associate Head Coach kind of title and responsibilities. Moorhead didn't culturally fit at Mississippi State, and while Oregon makes better sense than Miss St, Moorhead's an eastern region kind of guy.

That combo seemed like a good fit to me.

Dino is safe through 21 for sure.

I think 5 wins this year is my prediction...that should keep him safe

I wish SU could get a coach with NFL experience that an go into high ranked recruits home and offer a path to the NFL through Syracuse university. Dino barbers recruiting will never get it done

The other side of the coin ... who replaces Bill O'Brien at Houston?

Well check this out .....

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-w...ID=8670133

The relevant section of the above link is here:

Dabo Swinney: HELLO. Swinney is apparently also close with Easterby -- how the connection was established I'm not sure, but undoubtedly it was only strengthened over the last two years with Easterby working closely with Swinney's old quarterback Watson. Would the Clemson coach bounce for the NFL? He will likely lose Trevor Lawrence after this season and maybe he wants to take a shot at the professional level (after potentially walking off with another title). Swinney called Deshaun a "Michael Jordan" type and you don't get many chances to work with a former quarterback who won you a national title in his prime at the next level. Plenty of people will question if Swinney can be an NFL coach given his energetic style but plenty of people questioned whether Swinney should be the next coach at Clemson. That didn't work out well for the doubters. Worst case it ends up like Nick Saban in Miami and Swinney can go replace Saban after he retires from Swinney's alma mater!

THAT would be something .....

Brent Venables to step into the HC role in Clemson??

2020 could be an interesting coaching carousel.

So Dabo is going to go from a program he built where he has more talent than everyone else he plays to one destroyed by Bill O'brien where he'll have less talent than everyone else he plays and will continue to have less talent for at least the next 3 years? I don't think so. They'd be calling for Dabo's head before he even gets a chance to restock the talent level at Houston.

He should get more than 1 more year. He's proven that he can win 10 games in the ACC Atlantic for Syracuse. A program disadvantaged in recruiting by their location. I would keep him even if he has a few bad years.

Bill O'Brien is also a former GT Offensive Coordinator. I'd totally bring him here to replace Patenaude.
I know, fat chance, but I'm allowed to dream.

bill o’brien has a low football IQ, his apex is “ middle of the road”

While he was Offensive Coordinator at GT, we averaged 31 points a game. Prior to last night Patenaude hadn't scored 31 in a single game.

RE: Do we start the Bill O'Brien to Syracuse rumors now, or wait a couple of weeks?
Penn State fan's perspective: Bill O'Brien would not be interested in a college opening. He HATED recruiting. Syracuse isn't a place that recruits itself (no offense) so he'd need a whole team of coaches willing to do it for him. He's a great coach but his GM skills really did him in at Houston.

As someone else mentioned earlier, Joe Moorhead would be much better for Syracuse. He wasn't a fit at Mississippi State but he's a northeast guy and brings a great offensive mind. I don't think him and O'Brien would work well together since they are both offensive guys using completely different systems. I don't know that Moorhead would be successful in Syracuse, but he'd do everything to be successful.

Dino has lost his team and losing the fan base. I’m done with him , he not the guy to turn us around. I’m afraid Syracuse football has become a place where coaches careers go to die.

Have to agree. The team showed life the second half of last season, but it has completely failed to carry it into this season. I came into this year with hope we might win six games, a pretty modest goal. Now we're looking at the potential for 1-10.

Someone posted earlier in this thread that Babers was safe for another year. However, this year has been such a disaster, I don't believe that this is true now, even if it was previously.
