Remaining Undefeated Teams Before Week 6
Teams with 1st Loss Week 5:
Louisiana Tech
Virginia
Texas A&M
Auburn
Texas
Central Florida
Boston College
Mississippi State
Pittsburgh
Memphis
Baylor
UTSA

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
13: The 10 conference champs (including conferences that have not yet started), plus Liberty, UMass, and BYU.

Percent of Undefeateds with 1st Loss:
Week 1: 6.5% (5 of 77)
Week 2: 18.1% (13 of 72)
Week 3: 13.6% (8 of 59)
Week 4: 33.33% (17 of 51)
Week 5: 35.3% (12 of 34)

Week 5 Thoughts:
-The Big 12 is the biggest story this week and not in a good way. Oklahoma losing its first two conference games likely eliminates them from Rose/Sugar contention this year. That ends a good streak of them coming back and making it. Oklahoma State is still undefeated and there are some 1-loss Big 12 teams which could make it under the right circumstances, but it is looking increasingly likely to me that if the Big 12 is getting in this year, it needs to be the Cowboys. After starting the year as one of 3 power conferences playing, it seemed a shoe in the Big 12 would be included in the CFP, but odds are dropping very quickly now for the conference.

-A weird thing about this season is how some things are flipped on their head. After years of having more conference games, the Big Ten and PAC-12 will actually have fewer than the other conferences this year. The SEC will have 10 conference games while the PAC-12 has 7. Based on past few years, that just seems odd.

-Multiple interesting things on the Group of 5 NY6 bowl spot. Boise State has announced the game originally scheduled game against BYU will be played. This has the potential to be a very big game with possible NY6 implications for both schools. A win by Boise State will give them a good boost against their likely American conference competition. On the flip side, BYU has looked great so far, but might well need a bit more meat to the schedule to get into the top 10 or and get an at large NY6 spot. This makes that possible reality more feasible if they win.

-UCF losing does hurt the American. The conference still in a good position (best position in the G5 still in my opinion), but UCF was getting the benefit of the doubt in NY6 discussions. This might end that and end it early. That doesn't just effect the knights, but also means beating them later won't be quite as good for a different eventual champ as it would have been before.

Week 6 Thoughts:
We have 4 games between undefeated teams. They are Virginia Tech @ North Carolina, Coastal Carolina @ Louisiana-Lafayette, Tennessee @ Georgia, Miami (FL) @ Clemson,

Coastal Carolina @ Louisiana-Lafayette: For first place and to be the one likely chance the Sun Belt has at a NY6 competitor.

Tennessee @ Georgia: Georgia likely huge favorite. How is Tennessee progressing?

Miami (FL) @ Clemson: If Clemson loses a conference game, this is one of the most likely.
