RE: University of Toledo Cancels Spring Break
This decision may be proven correct or premature well before what would have been the original planned spring break. It seems as though compliance has been good so far, I hope it continues when the weather forces us inside more. Perhaps the spring will find us finally looking at a lasting reprieve from the pandemic.

Jumping on a sound bandwagon IMO. Some schools month ago announced canceling of Fall and Spring breaks. Maine was the first I know of, canceling back in early Aug. The Big10 jumped on in early Sept. I think this one will gather steam.

Nothing bad about this IMO, being cautious with no disruption to the College experience (at least for this policy change).

Two points:

- Students that are complaining about not having a spring break (I haven't heard of any yet) can go on a nice trip to FL in May when they are done with finals. It will be cheaper than peak spring break rates and the weather will be warmer.

- No one wants to have another virtual graduation. Assuming things continue to progress with "control" over the spread of COVID, there is no reason to think that there couldn't be outdoor graduation in May.

We largely have a working and commuting student population, I am not so sure that spring break trips to Florida and Mexico were as common here at UT as at other colleges. And with the economy and pandemic, likely if there was spring break next March, there would be even fewer students traveling. So although I am sure some students are upset at losing spring break I would be surprised if the outrage was very widespread. I know student government leadership was consulted on spring term schedule and supported idea of the five "no class" dates in replacement for spring.

Yep, and from a student performance perspective, it has been shown that intra-session breaks do more to harm a student's ability to perform well in courses than a 15-week straight semester at the Universities who have moved to that model fully.
