Question RE: MLB 2020/21 Hot Stove Thread
Holy sneikies! Morton's back!

Quote:The Braves brought back long-ago draft pick Charlie Morton on Tuesday for one year and $15 million. The Braves believe he can regain his form from 2019, when he finished third in the American League Cy Young Award voting for the Rays. A week earlier the Braves signed Drew Smyly for one year and $11 million. They believe he’s on the come after a good season with the Giants.

linkie: https://www.ajc.com/sports/mike-check-bl...RJHSWVJTM/

If Morton has anything left, Braves rotation goes from frighteningly non-existent in 2020 to scarily solid in 2021.

Braves have had a good off-season. I'd say they are solid favorites to repeat in the NL East.

I'm of the opinion they should not re-sign him for the likely multiple years and dollars he will require. Look what happened to Josh Donaldson last year with the twins. Ozuna is best-suited as a DH, and unless the NL retains the DH for 2021, the Braves would do better looking elsewhere. That said, Ozuna is a better risk than Donaldson was after his one year in Atlanta.

Pivoting to the Nats, are they going to do something this off-season?

Question RE: MLB 2020/21 Hot Stove Thread
SD...I know they have to try to catch the Dogs, but wow, they've been doing a lot this offseason. Now Darvish from the Cubs? Snell from the rays?

And the Rays are an interesting philosophy...no one is untradeable...as long as they feel they can get better with the deal....it's worked better for them than many might have thought.

Sorry to see Charlie Culberson leave (to the Rangers in a MiL deal) but he deserves a shot at more playing time and we're just too crowded fo0r him now.

Hats off to the Nats for getting Bell from the Pirates. Will help them a lot, and pair nicely with Soto.

Wither Realmuto, yet? Back to Philly?

I think the DH will be back. They were already talking about making it a reality for 2021 before the pandemic.

I agree that Ozuna is best for the DH position although he could certainly be used to give the LFer a day off every now and then.

The difficult question is if they let him walk then what's the plan to replace him? Unless they're working a deal for another cleanup hitter then they may be stuck. The FA market doesn't really present the same opportunity it did in the past couple of seasons.

And honestly, they can't keep doing this every year anyway.

I think Mitch Haniger could present a good opportunity, but it's hard to say.

They just signed Kim from the Korean league.

Interesting signing for the Padres considering they have Tatis and Machado, who are not going to change positions.

I think this is another indication that the DH isn't going anywhere.

Agreed. Kim can DH for the Padres and every so often play 3B or SS on a day that Machado or Tatis is the DH.

Question RE: MLB 2020/21 Hot Stove Thread
Wow! Lindor and Carrasco to the Metz for prospects. their rotation looks pretty solid now with Degrohm, Stroman and Carrasco, plus David Peterson and don;t forget they'll get Syndergaard coming back from TJ surgery.

The NL Beast has some strong starting rotations now with the Braves and Washington also competing. It's going to be an absolute war for the East division title. Should be fun to watch.

have to feel for the Indians fans, but they knew it was coming. They'll probably be Spiders or some such before they're good again.

I don't know if it's internet speculation or if actual conversations have taken place, but Jose Ramirez would look really nice in a Braves uniform.

Likely would have to give up Austin Riley and a couple of other decent prospects to get him, but it could be worth it. He's got 3 years left on his deal and you have to have someone that can protect Freddie.
