Quote:The National Hockey League (NHL), in partnership with Discover, Honda, MassMutual and Scotiabank today announced the official division names for the 2020-21 season: Scotia NHL North Division, Honda NHL West Division, Discover NHL Central Division and the MassMutual NHL East Division.

Embarrassing.

I understand the sentiment but with the killing of fans at games there has to be a revenue stream play to afford to put product on the ice. It has better only last this season though....

I'm still not a fan of the ads on helmets just like I was against the badges on NBA jerseys.... I don't want this to be European/Foreign soccer... then again, nearly every pro arena/stadium now is a corporate sponsorship target.

NHL Lake Tahoe event puts new twist on outdoor game

Avalanche-Golden Knights,
Bruins-Flyers
to celebrate hockey's roots in 'majestic' setting

Quote:The Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights will play in the Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday on Feb. 20 (3 p.m. ET; NBC, SN1, TVAS). The Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers will play in the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday on Feb. 21 (3 p.m. ET; NBC, SN1, TVAS).

The rink will be on the 18th fairway of the golf course at Edgewood Tahoe Resort near the California-Nevada border in Stateline, Nevada, the site of the American Century Championship since 1990 and the host of the 1985 U.S. Senior Open and 1980 U.S. Amateur Public Links.

"We always talk about pond hockey," NHL chief content officer Steve Mayer said. "It's always been the basis of why we play our outdoor games, and [this idea] always has been something on the shelf."

Will be interesting to see what NBCSN going away does for the NHL whose TV deal with NBC expires after this season.

There will be a lot of trickle down effect I am sure.... and then you get into FOX/FOXS1&2, FOXSports Regional Networks, CBS/CBSSN, and ABC/ESPN....

Then again, if TNT/TBS has done NBA for as long as it has then.... would USA really be that off of a bet?

I'm sure it's probably happened before, but I've never seen it until now:

Playoffs probably start next week, Wednesday/Thursday I imagine.

All my teams are out, so I'll hop on the Florida bandwagon. (I like seeing non-traditional markets do well)

Fight Night 5/5/2021

The Avalanche and Red Wings had a couple of good first puck drop fights in the 90s, including a fight between the goalies.

I sometimes miss those days. Go Avs!

Hurricanes are Central Division Champs via the Dallas win over Tampa tonight.....

I still want a strong finish with the two road games at the Predators to end the season.

FWIW, I did go the home finale against the Blackhawks the other night, tough result but it was great to attend a sporting event in person as a fan-- I hadn't been to a Hurricanes game since October of 2019.

How is playoff schedule Round 1 still not out yet? I thought they'd start this week, but extending the playoffs as long as they can is a tradition, I guess. I don't see them starting till next week Monday & Tuesday now.

Toronto vs Montreal in Round 1 is going to be a fun series. My Jets are going to be playing the Oilers. I wish I was more excited, but the Jets have looked awful over the last month.

North aka Canada has a lot of games left, I bet they don't start till next weekend. i doubt they try to start mid-week.

RE: 2020-21 NHL Thread
First three playoff games all went to OT.

Vegas gets played again. Most of the game was played in the Wild's zone, Vegas outshot them and outhustled them, yet lose in OT 0-1. Criminey, they even won the faceoff in tehir zone as the Power play expired, but couldn't clear the puck and womp, they get scored on. Shades of previous years. Minn was the only Division team Vegas had a losing record against. Now they're in their heads again, and lost the home-ice advantage.

Did notice a significant difference in noise level from the Vegas crowd and the one in Pittsburgh, which was almost a ghost-area 9there were a couple of people there.) Vegas did a good job of making it feel as close to a real playoff crowd as anyone has so far.

Jets win over Oilers last night in Edmonton.

Game winning goal was from Dominic Toninato, his first post season goal. This was also only his third start of the season.

Goalie Connor Hellebuyck celebrated his 28th birthday by keeping the Oilers to one score and racking up 32 saves.

I like how unique the NSH/CAR series is b/c those teams are in separate conferences in a "normal" season. Looks like it's a good series, too.

Epic win for Winnipeg last night. I almost turned the game off halfway through the third period when the Jets were struggling, down 4-1. Jets rally to take down the Oilers in OT.

Game 4 tonight in Winnipeg with the Jets controlling the series 3 games to 0.

Jets complete the sweep in Triple OT last night. I stayed up until a little over 2 AM on the east coast to catch the game winner by Kyle Connor.
