This should be an interesting offseason.

Here's a nice start:

Vegas Golden Knights re-sign goalie Robin Lehner to five-year, $25M deal

Don't see how they keep Marc-Andre Fleury around, so he will be available to help another team. He's still got some left in the tank.

RE: 2020-21 NHL Thread
The NHL is now targeting a Jan. 1 start date for next season, commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday.

In an interview with NHL Network, Bettman reiterated that the league hopes to play a full 82-game season and have fans in the arenas.

Guess they're not planing to have the virus dominate their lives starting beginning of next year. Hope they stick to this.

Getting better, slowly:

What Golden Knights signing Alex Pietrangelo means for Sharks, rivalry

Quote:Vegas officially signed former St. Louis Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, arguably the top player available in free agency, to a seven-year deal worth $61.6 million on Monday.

really needed that to close the gap next year.

I bet John Forslund gets the call up to a permeant gig with the Canes. He's already been doing NBC national broadcasts and playoff games. And, apparently the Canes didn't renew his contract, which I guess was on the assumption he would go NBC full time this next season.

Looks like they're considering 2021-only realignment so that the Canadian teams could play in one division and eliminate most cross-border road trips.

How an all-Canadian division might work as part of an NHL return-to-play strategy

If that happens, the NHL would likely realign the 24 US teams into 3 divisions.

But cutting down on travel with 4 US divisions instead of 3 seems like a better way to go, as suggested here:

Well, they're also now considering letting all the Canadian teams play dwon in the States. Would be fun to have the Flames and the Jets (Thrashers) back in Atlanta for a season!

NHL’s Canada-based teams could head to U.S.

This alignment results in slightly more travel overall (like 1.4%) but better groups the US teams by time zone. You only have Detroit (Eastern) in with the Central TZ teams and Colorado (Mountain) in with the Pacific TZ teams.

Canadian: Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg
Northeast: Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Philadelphia
Atlantic: Carolina, Columbus, Florida, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington
Central: Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis
Pacific: Anaheim, Arizona, Colorado, Los Angeles, San Jose, Vegas

For the playoffs, take the top 3 in each US division plus the top 4 in the Canadian division. For the 12 US teams, try to put them in 3 groups of 4 geographically rather than strictly by division or seed.

Dallas in the Central with no rivals while St Louis with their top 3 historical rivals (Chicago, Detroit, Nashville) gets sent West is absolutely ridiculous.
