Also heard when classes are over next week there will be more cuts. By my count we will be left with fewer than 25 upperclassmen, maybe under 20 when it's all said and done. BW recruits, and it helps Rahne get his guys in, but it's gonna be hard to replace a kid with 3-4 yrs S&C and field exp (even in a transitional system) with HS kids and still hope to get the dubs.
2021 gonna be rough, I think.
I agree. This year was going to be rough. All we did by not playing is push that rough year to next season. That will be three seasons in the new stadium with lousy or no football if thats the case. Hoping Rhane can get some more transfers in to jumpstart the program. If there was ever a time to do so, now might be it. This fanbase and program needs a winning season in the worst way.
Disagree to an extent. I think we are making it worse.
My hope was with the change in management and the serviceable guys left from BW, had we played this year, we scratched out 3-5 wins and improved from there as more (and theoretically higher-ranked) Rahne guys came in and BW guys graduated.
By not playing this year and everyone having a 'free year', there was an opportunity to ramp up S&C and drill from the basics on up to improve the quality across the board (with the new coaches/where BW coaches missed the mark), and then have those guys we'd improved on the field for an additional year (or until RR guys were 'field-ready'. So we spent 6-10 months prepping these guys and then release those with the experience, in some cases with no one on the depth chart behind them other than garbage minutes.
I get the opportunity for RR to get 'his guys' in, and I get the monetary end of releasing guys as they get their Bachelor's. But we took an opportunity to improve with what we had in hand and turned it into an obstacle to get back to winning football. I don't see how you go bowling when you'll be starting sophomores.
Other things I've heard make we wonder if we don't have the G5 Justin Fuente on our hands, but it'll take a couple of cycles to see trends there, and it's hard to ***** about our highest ranked class so far. Right now it's nothing more than wide-ranging chatter, but add it all up and you wonder.
Also, other than one high-profile case, I haven't really heard much about transfers, and word was pretty much all our spots were locked up...but we've had 3 guys de-commit in the last month, and Lord know's there will be plenty of room.
With a fanbase that's going to be bloodthirsty for winning football, and gutting the ranks of Juniors and Seniors, buckle up and grab your rosaries. ****'s gonna get ugly, I fear.
