Good point. my counter would be this. We would certainly have more competitive football, taking the best from both conferences.

I think it would help attendance.

However, the most important is it would allow us to renegotiate a brand new media contract

I think it's possible we could get closer to the American deal with these schools with our media numbers.

maybe not the billion dollar deal the American got, but more than the pennies were currently getting, for sure.

The problem is we would lose auto bids to all NCAA based championships including basketball. NCAA has said no more. (Well unless it was a new power conference that wanted it). This is why it’s likely either a realignment with the SBC or we keep paddling up stream in the same raft. I have often said there are the same core six to seven east of the Mississippi schools (plus La Tech) that are generally competitive nearly every year in key sports (though once one of them my university has turned into a complete shitshow). It might be worth the risk in the short term for those core schools to break off even without NCAA guarantees for a year or two. Those core could certainly try to add a couple of teams that I believe would make such a new league very competitive in the pecking order for both football and basketball. While I’m actually quite confident such a leagu could do just that I don’t believe there is anyone with the leadership at any of our schools to make it happen.

You know LA Tech won't split from the Texas programs. The only logical movement is for an eastern team or two to jump to the Sun Belt, if they can get invitations. And, that would actually help C-USA.

Temple got voted out of the Big East about 15 years ago. So, I guess if enough of C-USA programs get tired of rumblings in the east, they could always vote to remove a program or two. At least we could increase our CFP money and create a little more stability.

I’ve hear this before but don’t understand it. The leftover league would be much, much weaker and Tech could still play up to four non-conference games a year in Texas. Wouldn’t being in a stronger league be better than being in another league just because it’s based in Texas? What does playing UNT, Texas St, UTEP, etc get you that you couldn’t also achieve with your non-conf schedule?

LA Tech recruits heavily in Texas. Sure they can sign body bag games against Texas or Texas A&M, but those won't help their record or help them sign the better G5 talent in Texas. Without the Texas talent they currently sign, they would probably not be as competitive in an eastern league. If LT bailed on the rest of the C-USA Texas programs, they would probably have a hard time signing OOC games with us. This is just my opinion. An LT fan can address this better.

Aren’t there like 50 teams in Texas. Who says it has to be UT or A&M?

East coast league based on the C-USA East would have all East members + one or two others. So, that's what we have to start with. 7 already playing East members + GaSo and/or GaState

So what other schools would Marshall want in order to create a more east coastish conference of 10, which is the sweet spot nowadays?
Assuming you start with:

Two scenarios: Geographic (which really doesn’t matter because we fly almost to ever away game) and perceptive.

Geographic:

Marshall
ODU
Liberty (and I can’t stand them)
WKU
Charlotte
App
JMU (the new conference can afford one call up)
MTSU
UAB
Troy

Perceptive (for the best conference):

Marshall
WKU
App
Charlotte
StAte
MTSU

LaTech
UAB
USM
ULL
FAU
Troy

I think a reconfigured conference would get a pretty good media contract, it would also reduce travel.

Marshall has already proven that apart from the CUSA locked in games, we can draw good TV numbers, and draw games with ESPN and other large carriers.

I just don't see how CUSA can stay together considering all that they've shown us in the last few years, especially this season.

Care to let everyone else know what these good TV numbers are?

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college...v-ratings/

Marshall vs EKU 980,000 viewers
Marshall vs App State 1.25 million viewers

The top two highest rated CUSA games this year. By far.

Is that butts on couches or channels scanned!?

Better than the Tech vs BYU game last night?

TBD. Week 5 games haven't posted ratings yet.

Very unlikely though, as most ESPN2 games get well under those numbers. The only one who's come close to that this year is a P5 game. And that one had an asterisk on it.

I was mostly providing the proof, because I knew where WKUYG's head was at. He thinks I was just pulling my opinion and numbers out of thin air.

Just showing that typically when given the opportunity, Marshall does very well on ESPN and national broadcasts.

That second one looks pretty good and reasonable.

A case can be made for ODU probably, they might be in in one of those other teams might be out.
