C-USA split?
I think we all have a pretty good guess who the ringleader(s) would be. The real question is how many were/are the "multiple schools"?

RE: C-USA split?
CUSA hasn't helped matters this season.
They've left it's schools for dead. I appreciate many or the schools in this conference, however, I'm just done with the stagnant CUSA admins.

As long as we stay with ODU and UTEP, I'm good.

RE: C-USA split?
I like all the western schools and wish them all success but there is almost no benefit for the eastern and the western schools to remain together. An eastern focused conference would draw just as much attention as the current configuration of CUSA and possibly be better in basketball if you can add the right schools.

Ga State looks like they're on to something good.
Very large enrollment, I'm not even going to get into the markets thing, but at least they've got that going for them.
This way we lock down all of the southeast flying hubs.
We can call it the airport conference.

RE: C-USA split?
It would be interesting to see where Southern Miss and UAB would throw its allegiance down. Would they want to go with the Texas schools, or would they want to join this best of the rest configuration?
I think a reconfigured conference would get a pretty good media contract, it would also reduce travel.
Marshall has already proven that apart from the CUSA locked in games, we can draw good TV numbers, and draw games with ESPN and other large carriers.
I just don't see how CUSA can stay together considering all that they've shown us in the last few years, especially this season.

Then you have to go with FIU as well. Market, large airport, huge student body

Never thought that the Old Big East would split into the the AAC and new Big East so anything is possible with a media deal. That said don't think one is coming.

Let's be honest, the football schools wanted to stay with the Catholic 7. Adding Tulane for all sports was the last straw for defectors. There's a reason East Carolina was added as football only and was added for all sports once the split was announced. Also, the new Big East had basketball brands and added three upcoming programs that made it attractive to FOX and its new channel, FS1. The AAC still had UConn and Cincinnati basketball and adding Memphis and Temple helped strength that brand. Football was a big risk since the AAC was losing the Big East AQ but it still had upcoming football programs like Houston and the Florida twins. Hence ESPN paid $2 million a year per school and it's now paying $7 million.
Any C-USA related split would not have any of those things. People can throw any scenarios but the biggest question mark is there's not a single school in this conference that has separated from the rest like BYU, Utah and TCU in the MWC; Boise State in the WAC; Marshall in the MAC; UCF and Cincinnati in the AAC. The same applies to basketball. UTEP, UAB, WKU, ODU and Charlotte have failed to live to the expectations. This conference is still a one bid league even with those five as a basketball core. There's not a Gonzaga, Dayton, VCU, Wichita State type of program in this conference. Heck, we don't even have a Temple level program. So why a network would be willing to pay $1 million (I'm being generous) per school for a mediocre conference? Not just the current C-USA but all the scenarios I see out there have "mediocre" written over it. Yes, Appalachian State might be hot now. But as any G5 program, once they start winning, their coach will be a target for a P5 gig. The likes of Indiana, Boston College and Oregon State are now appealing because they can pay more thanks to their conference's tv deal.....something that was not the case 20 years ago.
I just don't see an scenario where a split happens. Even with the MWC, ESPN showed interest and paid them more than the WAC. ESPN offered the MWC more money and exposure by having them play on Thursday night which became popular and the NFL is doing it now. I just can't see it.

Marshall vs EKU 980,000 viewers
Marshall vs App State 1.25 million viewers
The top two highest rated CUSA games this year. By far.
