Good point. my counter would be this. We would certainly have more competitive football, taking the best from both conferences.

I think it would help attendance.

However, the most important is it would allow us to renegotiate a brand new media contract

I think it's possible we could get closer to the American deal with these schools with our media numbers.

maybe not the billion dollar deal the American got, but more than the pennies were currently getting, for sure.

The Sun Belt is weaker this season too. App isn't as good as they have been, and Troy has lost a few steps. Right now, it looks like Arkansas State and ULL are the best programs in the Belt, so that doesn't help with the eastern dream reported in the article.

But, if the east breaks away, this version of C-USA wouldn't look too bad...

C-USA 4.0
Southern Miss
LA Tech
UAB
North Texas
Rice
UTEP
UTSA
Arkansas State
ULL

Yeah. I just don't think any of us are very happy with our current administration right now.

This split probably isn't a reality, but it's looking like it could be more realistic now than ever.

Look guys, Joe is right. You split off, the deal is that you have to take Judy. We'll hold on to the power wheels jeep, but you guys have to take the commish.

We will go rehire Maddie and make her our new commissioner.

Then feel free to play ball with ULM, Texas State, UTEP, Rice and the like.

Because you of all schools have a less than 0% chance of ever getting into the American.

From reading the posts, sound like UAB and Ga State think they're American material.
What makes you think that the SBC is going to solve your problem? We don't have a problem. From Atlanta I can drive to 80% of the league very easily. Texas State is a 2 hr and change flight to San Antonio. Same for UT-Arlington.

As for their other comment, AAC isn't taking anyone but you yourself are saying it, if we left the SBC it is not for CUSA or FrakenCuSA

Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk

You're missing my point. If we started this franken conference, you would not have the Sunbelt in its current form. You would not have App State, Arkansas state, Troy and Louisiana.

You would be in a conference with ULM, South Alabama, Rice, UTEP, UTSA and Texas State.

And let's be clear also, I don't think any of this is going to happen, this is just a frustrated fan venting and having enough with the CUSA admin. I don't represent Marshall, I'm just a dude on a message board having a football conversation, considering we haven't played in weeks.

CUSA at that time could have pulled those teams in, but they didn’t and allowed the SBC to keep a decent core and thus far chose the better call ups.

CUSA had a thesis and executed on it very well for better or in actuality worse.

A lot of smoke on the topic, but not sure there’s actual fire. The key may be convincing eastern or better SBC teams why it benefits them, the margins are so thin, from the outside looking in seems like a tough sell.

RE: C-USA split?
The article says that multiple schools want an east coastish conference. The writers words not mine. So multiple means 3 or more i suppose. ODU for sure and likely Charlotte too. Marshall would make sense as well but they would certainly want at least one of the Florida schools and maybe both to ensure a fb trip to Florida every season. I think Marshall would be the lynch pin to start this new conference because they are the only ones with the history and athletic success to pull in enough schools to make it happen. The real hurdle to overcome would be auto bids and cfp annual payouts. A media contract would be at least as good and probably better than their current deal.

So what other schools would Marshall want in order to create a more east coastish conference of 10, which is the sweet spot nowadays?
Assuming you start with:

Marshall, ODU, Charlotte, FAU, FIU and staying east, the 5 additions that would make the most sense would be App St, Coastal Carolina, Georgia St, Georgia Southern and Troy. But unless the money makes it really worthwhile for the 5 SBC schools, its just not happening.

All this talk about an East Coast conference seems to assume the west teams would just be SOL. I think a western conference would be good for Rice. We used to be in a Texas-centric conference, the Southwest Conference, and I think it could work again. Just as the east coasters don’t like the long trip to Texas, Texans don’t like the long trips East. Maybe attendance will go up with more local opponents rather than teams that nobody here cares about.

Sounds like a win-win. Let’s split.

I don't think we are closer to a split. I think this reporter was chasing a different story and caught wind of something we knew was being aired by some eastern programs. I won't speculate as to which ones. It's game day.

I wish Marshall was taking the field with Rice today. As much as I like Rice, I'm becoming concerned about how serious they are about athletics. Best of luck next week when Marshall travels to WKU. I'll be pulling for Marshall to get back into the Top 25. 04-cheers

All this bugaboo over a tweet by someone who claims to have sources.....for all we know it could be Chuck Landon, Pat McGee and Harry Minium. While i understand it makes sense to have a more regional conference i don't see it happening unless majority of schools want that and at this point that multiple schools can be 2 or 3 maybe. 2020 hasn't stopped screwing us yet so i guess that is a possibility.

The problem is we would lose auto bids to all NCAA based championships including basketball. NCAA has said no more. (Well unless it was a new power conference that wanted it). This is why it’s likely either a realignment with the SBC or we keep paddling up stream in the same raft. I have often said there are the same core six to seven east of the Mississippi schools (plus La Tech) that are generally competitive nearly every year in key sports (though once one of them my university has turned into a complete shitshow). It might be worth the risk in the short term for those core schools to break off even without NCAA guarantees for a year or two. Those core could certainly try to add a couple of teams that I believe would make such a new league very competitive in the pecking order for both football and basketball. While I’m actually quite confident such a leagu could do just that I don’t believe there is anyone with the leadership at any of our schools to make it happen.

I think a reconfigured conference would get a pretty good media contract, it would also reduce travel.

Marshall has already proven that apart from the CUSA locked in games, we can draw good TV numbers, and draw games with ESPN and other large carriers.

I just don't see how CUSA can stay together considering all that they've shown us in the last few years, especially this season.

Care to let everyone else know what these good TV numbers are?

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college...v-ratings/

Marshall vs EKU 980,000 viewers
Marshall vs App State 1.25 million viewers

The top two highest rated CUSA games this year. By far.

Better than the Tech vs BYU game last night?

You know LA Tech won't split from the Texas programs. The only logical movement is for an eastern team or two to jump to the Sun Belt, if they can get invitations. And, that would actually help C-USA.

Temple got voted out of the Big East about 15 years ago. So, I guess if enough of C-USA programs get tired of rumblings in the east, they could always vote to remove a program or two. At least we could increase our CFP money and create a little more stability.

I’ve hear this before but don’t understand it. The leftover league would be much, much weaker and Tech could still play up to four non-conference games a year in Texas. Wouldn’t being in a stronger league be better than being in another league just because it’s based in Texas? What does playing UNT, Texas St, UTEP, etc get you that you couldn’t also achieve with your non-conf schedule?

Doubt it was us. Hill hasn’t seemed too interested in doing anything out positioning us for AAC at some point in future. We aren’t spending millions rebranding and $245 million in updates and expansions to be in a reshuffled conference. That very well may happen because performance and opportunity have to be there, but it’s not the goal.

I wouldn’t be mad to be in a conference without cusa west (except uab). Has nothing to do with those schools, just think a more regional east coast league would be more fun / rivalry driven.

Good point. my counter would be this.

LA Tech
UAB
North Texas
Rice
UTEP
UTSA
Arkansas State
ULL
Lol

Lol

Lol

League that took down three P5s on a weekend is weaker. Oh ok, let's go with that.

You are free to believe what you want, but I notice you are posting it on our C-USA board. That speaks volumes to me. 07-coffee3

RE: C-USA split?
I don’t care we’ll play with whoever stays behind. My gut says all of you.
