Ga State? Did you mean GaSo?

Ga State looks like they're on to something good.

Very large enrollment, I'm not even going to get into the markets thing, but at least they've got that going for them.

This way we lock down all of the southeast flying hubs.

We can call it the airport conference.05-stirthepot

Then you have to go with FIU as well. Market, large airport, huge student body

No. We'll let you guys take that pie of the Miami market. No need to bring both.

(10-02-2020 10:28 PM)Steve1981 Wrote:  Never thought that the Old Big East would split into the the AAC and new Big East so anything is possible with a media deal. That said don't think one is coming.

Let's be honest, the football schools wanted to stay with the Catholic 7. Adding Tulane for all sports was the last straw for defectors. There's a reason East Carolina was added as football only and was added for all sports once the split was announced. Also, the new Big East had basketball brands and added three upcoming programs that made it attractive to FOX and its new channel, FS1. The AAC still had UConn and Cincinnati basketball and adding Memphis and Temple helped strength that brand. Football was a big risk since the AAC was losing the Big East AQ but it still had upcoming football programs like Houston and the Florida twins. Hence ESPN paid $2 million a year per school and it's now paying $7 million.

Any C-USA related split would not have any of those things. People can throw any scenarios but the biggest question mark is there's not a single school in this conference that has separated from the rest like BYU, Utah and TCU in the MWC; Boise State in the WAC; Marshall in the MAC; UCF and Cincinnati in the AAC. The same applies to basketball. UTEP, UAB, WKU, ODU and Charlotte have failed to live to the expectations. This conference is still a one bid league even with those five as a basketball core. There's not a Gonzaga, Dayton, VCU, Wichita State type of program in this conference. Heck, we don't even have a Temple level program. So why a network would be willing to pay $1 million (I'm being generous) per school for a mediocre conference? Not just the current C-USA but all the scenarios I see out there have "mediocre" written over it. Yes, Appalachian State might be hot now. But as any G5 program, once they start winning, their coach will be a target for a P5 gig. The likes of Indiana, Boston College and Oregon State are now appealing because they can pay more thanks to their conference's tv deal.....something that was not the case 20 years ago.

I just don't see an scenario where a split happens. Even with the MWC, ESPN showed interest and paid them more than the WAC. ESPN offered the MWC more money and exposure by having them play on Thursday night which became popular and the NFL is doing it now. I just can't see it.

The football schools were doing whatever Jurich told them to do. He had that conference on lockdown like he has all the conferences he's ever infected. Their #1 priority was shaking the basket every time they had a chance to game the BCS/CFP system. The Catholic 7 went their own way because they were tired of drama and constant realignment that had absolutely nothing to do with them as it was football driven.

The problems within C-USA are not going to be fixed by reorganizing, but those that want out can always walk away... just take Judy with you.

Then feel free to play ball with ULM, Texas State, UTEP, Rice and the like.

Because you of all schools have a less than 0% chance of ever getting into the American.

From reading the posts, sound like UAB and Ga State think they're American material.

Judy will stay in Texas, enjoy that fancy office building, take extra long lunches, and spend the rest of the work day online shopping. Heaven forbid the conference get a revised schedule when things start falling apart.

Joe, Judy IS THE REASON we want out.

She and the rest of the CUSA admin have done far too much damage. This media deal, sitting on their hands with conference scheduling, basketball pod play. That's just the start.

A team of GA's from North Texas could run this conference better.

What makes you think that the SBC is going to solve your problem? We don't have a problem. From Atlanta I can drive to 80% of the league very easily. Texas State is a 2 hr and change flight to San Antonio. Same for UT-Arlington.

As for their other comment, AAC isn't taking anyone but you yourself are saying it, if we left the SBC it is not for CUSA or FrakenCuSA

I've wanted Judy gone for years. I honestly can't understand how she keeps her job. I guess she has dirt on enough of our university presidents or something. I agree. We need a real commissioner with a real administrative team running C-USA.

You're missing my point. If we started this franken conference, you would not have the Sunbelt in its current form. You would not have App State, Arkansas state, Troy and Louisiana.

You would be in a conference with ULM, South Alabama, Rice, UTEP, UTSA and Texas State.

And let's be clear also, I don't think any of this is going to happen, this is just a frustrated fan venting and having enough with the CUSA admin. I don't represent Marshall, I'm just a dude on a message board having a football conversation, considering we haven't played in weeks.

I don’t see how reshuffling CUSA and the SB really doing anything to improve anyone’s on field performance or attendance. UAB has scheduled several SB teams for the next few years so I imagine that each institution also has the same opportunity.

Good point. my counter would be this. We would certainly have more competitive football, taking the best from both conferences.

I think it would help attendance.

However, the most important is it would allow us to renegotiate a brand new media contract

I think it's possible we could get closer to the American deal with these schools with our media numbers.

maybe not the billion dollar deal the American got, but more than the pennies were currently getting, for sure.

In this scenario, the only real drama is whether UAB goes with East or West division.

If they come East, I’d find 2 belt teams and call it a ten team conference.

The Sun Belt is weaker this season too. App isn't as good as they have been, and Troy has lost a few steps. Right now, it looks like Arkansas State and ULL are the best programs in the Belt, so that doesn't help with the eastern dream reported in the article.

But, if the east breaks away, this version of C-USA wouldn't look too bad...

C-USA 4.0
Southern Miss
LA Tech
UAB
North Texas
Rice
UTEP
UTSA
Arkansas State
