The Shelby County Health Department is currently having their press release. The guy just said that if things go well, next week they'll issue a new directive #13.  They said they were looking at reducing the outdoor required distance (for football) from 12 ft, but he wouldn't commit to how much.

If we do not do something stupid we have seen the curve flatten out. If we can continue as we have we will see the numbers drop soon.

Haushalter was asked specifically about sports venue seating capacity, and she said that they had previously said they would look at restaurants (which they just addressed), but then would address seating capacity. She said they reduced indoor from 18 to 12 ft, but didn't mention outdoors.

If you look at the State of Tennessee as a whole (because I can't find similar numbers for Shelby County), we flattened that curve in July.



In case you're curious, the Dept of Health caused that drop by starting to mark people as recovered/inactive starting 14 days after their symptoms started. They were previously using 21 days. If you retroactively apply those numbers, that giant jump was far smaller than that.

A spokesperson for Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton says the speaker believes these health departments, which have their own authority and issue their own health directives independently from the state, have too much control.

The NCAA recently announced that the season will be delayed until Nov. 25, and regular-season games will be reduced by four. Due to these and other potential adjustments, we felt it is best to treat this as the unique season it will be. Therefore, we have made several decisions that we felt are in the best interest of our loyal season ticket holders:

• The season ticket renewal deadline for the 2020-21 season has been extended to Oct. 15.
• All season ticket holders will retain their same seat locations for the 2021-22 basketball season, whether they choose to renew this year or not.
• Those who choose to renew their season ticket and parking amounts this season will automatically have that amount rolled over and credited to their accounts for the 2021-22 season. These accounts are "paid in full" for next season.
• All TSF basketball-related donations will also be credited to the 2021-22 season. (Please note TSF donations cannot be refunded).
• Those who have already renewed their tickets and would like to request a refund on their tickets may request one by emailing tsf@memphis.edu no later than Oct. 22, 2020.
• Due to a reduced home basketball schedule and anticipated capacity limits with social distancing, all games this season will only have single-game ticket sales.
• Season ticket holders who choose to renew their tickets this season (which will automatically be credited for next season) will have first priority to purchase the limited number of single-game tickets during the 2020-21 season.
• Once we have a finalized 2020-21 schedule, we will communicate the timeline, process to purchase and prices for single-game tickets.

We hope you will give every consideration to purchasing your 2020-21 men’s basketball season tickets, recognizing that it will be considered payment in full for the 2021-22 season, regardless of any price or donation increases. Further, this gives you first priority to purchase any single-game tickets for home games during the 2020-21 season. The goal should be for all season ticket holders to be able to attend. Those that paid for this season--- and those that deferred, who would be given preference for buying tickets--- should be able to go. The crowd would likely be about 12k, which aligns with the 1/4th capacity (minimum) you're seeing everywhere else.

The high school crowds will be "encouraged" to wear masks as they enter and leave the stadium, but not during the game.

So if people give the U of M money for season tix this year that they won't receive, and the amount is credited to next season, and they do this so the athletic department has $$ to use this season, how will the athletic department function next season when there are no new $$ coming in?

They're also losing the donation money from this year (or postponing the loss until next year), which is significant.

Too bad they can't set up HD cameras at prime locations courtside, and sell the programming on a season ticket basis.
