Huh? The MWC is not working on those teams. And how in the heck will this help "keep Air Force"? This is the most random thing I've read in a while.
As a Boise St fan, I have posted several times on the main board that it would be my hope that the MWC picks up Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita St (non-football). Maybe I'm the source? But seriously, I don't see a stable future for Boise St in the new XII (I wouldn't turn it down) and I don't want the school to burn bridges with the MWC. Those 4 (5) schools enhance the academic and basketball profile of the conference while expanding into the increasingly necessary CST and, from time-to-time, strengthening football.
As far as "keeping Air Force," I don't foresee the academy leaving the MWC unless they came to the XII as a pair with Colorado St or Navy - neither of which I see to be very likely. Air Force would want to play both of those schools plus Army annually so they would need at least 1 to be a division/conference foe.

Let’s shift this conversation to talking about the Missouri Valley Football Conference. They’re at 11 members, who should be the 12th?

Maybe the question should be is the WAC looking for teams to be FCS long term or looking for teams that would like to be FBS for the 2027 season.

The only relevant question is if Seattle or Cal Baptist will leave. In a few months, you will probably able to add NMSU to the list.

Do you think New Mexico State would join Conference USA in all sports if it meant playing divisional games against UTEP, UTSA, North Texas, and Louisiana Tech?

No. NMSU is never leaving. They’re stuck in the banished-from-the-belt purgatory but they won’t bite the bullet and go WAC FCS. Besides, if the grandfather clause is to work in around 7-8 years they’d just be back in the FBS anyways. Oh well, instead of getting killed by SFA and Sam they’ll get blown out by Liberty and UMASS. Embarrassing either way.
By the time NMSU has the chance to leave the WAC, they’ll be conference mates with the David Street crew. Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State Pueblo, Midwestern Mesa College of Nowhere!

Which is why I believe Conference USA will reach out to them and not Liberty, UMass, or UConn. NMSU would fit a new CUSA West Division footprint, whereas ODU would try to block Liberty while UMass and UConn are way out of the CUSA footprint. Plus football only membership sucks in this circumstance, and there would be no reason to add a football only member, and when it's UMass & UConn, that's a double no.

CUSA wants to shrink the footprint, not expand. If CUSA loses UTEP in this whole situation, there's no reason to bring in New Mexico State.
I could be wrong, but I just do not see a path towards bringing New Mexico State into any of the current FBS leagues. It does nothing for the G5 leagues and NMSU makes great fodder for an out of conference game particularly for the Mountain West schools.

If UTEP is not going anywhere, then NMSU really is not bound for CUSA.
UTEP could be snatched by the Mountain West depending which Texas schools show a willingness or lack their of in going there if passed over for the AAC. I am not sure Rice, SMU, North Texas and UTSA are all going to be completely on board with "going west".
To bring back to the WAC situation, NMSU is a 'flight risk' if they get any ticket out of town but do not think they will be getting admittance on any trains heading out.

Not really. Losing UTEP means you could tighten up geography and not add the worst FBS program in America.

Correct.
I do not understand why anyone thinks that CUSA would want to keep their geography as wide and not tighten it up significantly!

In my opinion, the only shot NMSU has at C-USA is if UTEP stays in it. We would be the best travel partner one could ask for the Oly sports, being 45 minutes away.
The questions is, will UTEP actually allow it to happen. History says they won't, but Princess Di and Bob "Dull" are no longer there so who knows. At this point, not sure I want to leave the WAC. I kinda like it here!

I think people are misreading your post. If the minors leave, NMSU would not backfill them. CUSA could tighen up their footprint. But if other teams leave CUSA and CUSA needs to add a team, NMSU may work out as a travel partner for the minors.
