Sure would be handy, and completely logical. However, NAU has already announced publicly they are staying put.

I give it three years before NAU changes their mind. Probably less if the WAC can get a better TV deal than the Big Sky.

There is also the logistical problem that NAU and SFA would have to conduct an ESPN-style logging competition to determine the WAC's top Lumberjacks.

RE: WAC Expansion/FCS - for real (Official Discussion Thread)
So, in 2022, with this announcement it Brings the WAC to 13 OLY Sports institutions, with 7 of those playing FCS Football in the WAC and 1 playing FBS football. IT sounds as if UTRGV is [planning to start football at the FCS level by as early as 2023 which would bring the conference to 8 Football playing members. My question is, what is the ideal number of football playing institutions in an FCS WAC that is looking to potentially move teh FBS as soon as possible?

GO AGGIES!!!

So I'm wondering, how do the NMSU fans here feel about the WAC's intention to place the Aggies in the new Western Division as opposed to the Southwestern Division? Practically it appears to make the most sense since it will help balance basketball strength between the divisions (with NMSU on one side and SFA on the other) and since there are more candidates for the 14th conference member in Texas than in the far western states. But if NMSU fans could have it either way what would your preference be?

UTRGV will probably add football in 2024.

It can already be argued that the WAC has a better TV deal than the Big Sky. I think if the WAC can show some stability plus improved basketball power numbers, NAU might think it over. 3 years though? Hard to say.

I believe you need 8 schools for an FBS conference. So the WAC would be right there if you include NMSU.

Good question. I actually think the travel in the west division is easier for NMSU. Large metros and major airports.

I like your comment about the basketball powers in each division, but the point is having the best teams play each other to boost their NET numbers for the NCAA seeding. There are probably going to be years when SFA and NMSU do not play each other or they only play each other once.

Bottom line, I'm fine being in the western division.

There you go. If you don’t even know what it is, that’s a problem.

PlutoTV is a OTT free service/app that you can get on Roku, Apple, and others. It has a ton of stuff. It’s free, but has commercials. I like it, but as a destination for sports fan, I don’t see it. However, every Big Sky game is shown live, for free. Good for BSC fans, but for others like you, doubt many are watching or even know it’s there.

I think the western side fits best for NMSU. A lot more fans from NM could make the road trips to those schools than the schools on the other side of Texas. And because of our past conference history we have more familiarity with western schools.

Also it would be a shame to break up what I think is one of the best growing rivalries in the WAC in NMSU/GCU. Especially when GCU appears to be on the cusp of taking that next step up as a program. I like what I’m seeing from GCU, CBU and I think Seattle has huge potential. The Utah schools also appear to be solid adds, given time to grow. We still get to play teams in the other division, which I love because I’m currently located in S. Texas.

All things considered, the WAC made a good move with all this. I’m super satisfied with the way things turned out. Mr. Peanut would be proud.

So happy we get to dust off the ole "Almost Christian" chant.

Last time I used it was when a father of an ACU girls basketballer was in the middle of the student section trying to pick a fight with everyone and got moved to the general admission seating.

It will be so nice to have an actual rival that cares enough to chant crap about your school. :)

I like the additions today. I’m glad the WAC keeps fighting back. Selfishly I would have liked Denver to come back, or Metro would move up, so I could watch wac teams here.

So in volleyball there’d be no cross divisional games? But in hoops it’s twice in your division and once the other? So the western teams play more conference games? Or is basketball going with one league? I didn’t bother to read the release, so apologies.
