That San Antonio market is a powerful drug. UIW has always shown potential, and Lord knows they have the cash. Have to admit they really have built a nice brand. Would be a nice swap for Seattle. Culturally, geographically, and they play FOOTBALL. Actually had them coming over from the SLC with ACU, when I didn't think there was a snowball's chance in Hades we'd get both SFA AND Sam. Already play some WAC sports. If true, this could be a great move.

So now it’s only HBU and the Louisiana schools that were the problem? UIW has always been a valuable member to the SLC schools?

Not so much. UIW, much like HBU has subpar facilities and San Antonio does very little to support them. UTSA plays in the Alamodome and has a large following and gets local support. UIW plays in a stadium that is not on par with local High Schools and has a small following. Hard to believe I’m saying this but the WAC can and should do better. No need to add a school just to add a warm body for football. There are much better football schools out there!

I’m really surprised signs point to the WAC leaning towards Incarnate Word over West Texas A&M.

So UIW, IUW, WIU or whatever the heck I'm reading = Incarnate Word? Thanks for setting me straight. What the heck is an HBU? Are these schools DII, NAIA, high schools in the San Antonio area? I am familiar with DI schools. I know very little about schools that aren't DI.

Apparently not lol.

I totally understand and agree with your point though. If I didn't frequent these boards I wouldn't know much about many FCS or D2 schools either.

RE: WAC Expansion/FCS - for real (Official Discussion Thread)
I do not believe the WAC is leaning towards Incarnate Word over West Texas A&M or any other schools.

I am under the impression the WAC is looking into things and trying to see what's out there. There is the possibility that a school like West Texas A&M may not be ready for Division I, let alone the Western Athletic Conference which has a bit more financial (and other requirement) than the Southland Conference.

On the flip side, a school like WTAMU could be forced into a move as the Lonestar Conference is ripe for picking by the Southland / WAC and that league may not be full of the peers that they anticipated, thus the need for just going with the flow and making the move.

So you are happy with the Big Sky and won't pursue football membership in the WAC? okay then!

That's what caught your eye? Not the blatant "let's dump Seattle" crap from him again. LOL.

Yeah, I don’t care about that. Just calling out more of his spin that spews from his mouth. For months we heard about how crappy their athletics is. Now they’re rich and play football and “worthy” enough to be in Tarleton’s presence.

Well, that's a stretch, but Tarleton does know them well.

UIW also came up through the D2 ranks from the LSC. #TheWord have always thought highly of themselves, despite their abysmal facilities. I believe my exact words regarding the possibility of UIW coming over to the WAC in previous threads were though they lack the facilities, they would have the audacity to try to make a push toward FBS. They are the "#1 Catholic University in Texas", according to them, and they want to push that message and their brand as far as they can. No doubt they have the capital backing to approve and mobilize the required facility upgrades virtually overnight. I think they were SLC champs in football a few years ago, and were ranked in Top 25 this Spring. Again, nice swap for the no-football major outlier Seattle.

Why would we be interest in the WAC, because we are an affiliate baseball member? We won the BSC FB crown in 2019. To be honest, the FBS angle is interesting but I don't really see it happening in the next decade for the WAC, which of course by then more than likely the best TX WAC FB program will be poached.

It would be a nice “swap” if that were even remotely possible. I think the WAC would rather have UIW than Seattle going forward. Just for travel and for optics. However, Seattle has no place to really go and they’re not poor performing like a Chicago State. UIW is an awful athletics school. Their facilities are very poor. They would be someone you take, just to do it. They add nothing.

True, but the SUU add isn't much different but here we are nonetheless.

Well according to IT, the Texas schools are going to ditch SUU when they’re in FBS in 5 years. He never responded to my question about why a team would leave a stable conference to be ditched 5 years later.

C'mon, Slappy. That's not what I said, and you know it. What I did say is you need to get off your lazy arse and dig into what SUU's plans are. I'm focused on the evolving Texas-WAC domination/expansion at the moment. I even provided you a link to SUU's stadium expansion plans, which took me all of 2.2 seconds to google out.

I also said the future (stable) WAC should be a Texas vs. Utah league, with AZ, NM and maybe CO schools filling in the footprint gaps. So to me, the more financially stable Utah schools in the WAC, the better. Especially those that play football. UVU starting up football and Weber State coming on board would pave the way to creating one helluva Utah/Western bloc.

Starting with this post https://csnbbs.com/thread-907831-post-17...id17336900 you keep saying the WAC will be FBS in 5 years. Yes, you already brought up SUU’s stadium expansion article, which is 5 years old and nothing has happened or will happen anytime soon. So again, the WAC will not be in FBS in 5 years.

Sorry, he said that Tarleton will be FBS in 5 years. But they’re just stringing along the other teams and they all left other conferences to join a school that is leaving them soon.

Several months back on Sac's message board, a couple posters were giddy over the prospects of going to the WAC for football, and leaving the Big Sky - for the Big West in everything else, which would unite you with Cal Poly and UC Davis.

Of course it would be in everyone's best interest if Sac kindly remains in the Big Sky. Or joins the WAC as a full member.

Other than a football program to get you to the AQ number immediately they really don't bring much to the table. And, as far as Seattle, they like NMSU aren't going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Interesting article to revisit. This guy was on to something, back when WAC FBS was just crazy talk. My, how things have changed in a year. HBU has no business in D1, whatsoever. UTEP back to WAC in the West Division would be a slam dunk.

Alright I'll bite. Why would UTEP want to leave CUSA for the WAC? I dont buy the article's answer to that question.

RE: WAC Expansion/FCS - for real (Official Discussion Thread)
I don't believe they will, but the only possible reason might be travel costs.

Didn't read the article... but guess would be the pitches something like ...

UTEP is a western school in a league that stretches to the Atlantic. Supposedly their reason for staying is recruiting and alumni access to major Texas population centers (DFW, Houston, and San Antonio/Austin).

A move to the WAC puts them in the geographic center of the league rather than the Extreme Fringe.

WAC doesn't do a 1:1 exchange for Texas markets. Period. Stephenville is not the same as Denton and Huntsville is not downtown Houston. However they are close enough for alums to travel for a weekend game and get press in the home media market.

Now instead of playing the "other division" in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee they are playing in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and California. Where their alumni are also located.
