People on UC social media lately are acting like the staff are watching Ben Bryant sling all over the field- mistake free in practice and saying "Meh- I don't care, we're sticking with Ridder".

Something said it on here (or maybe it was on BCJ) that UC fans have remnants of Brendan Kay/Munchie Legaux or Hayden Moore/Gunner Kiel in their brain where CBJ and CTT stuck to their guys regardless. CLF will not accept losing, and if it means that we will need to make a move to win he will not hesitate to pull that trigger.

The coaches appear to have no interest in a change. So unless we lose multiple games due to QB play I don’t think we’ll see one. Either they’re in love with Ridder or Bryant sucks.

Honestly, if Bryant isn’t what we think and we don’t have a better QB option on this team we need to seriously re-evaluate what we are doing in recruiting at that position. We seem to be stockpiling talent at every other position and developing that talent, so if that’s not happening at QB then we need to make some changes.

I agree though that it seems the coaches have no interest in making a change and outside of continued poor play, close games where they shouldn’t be, and a loss, I don’t expect a change.

Our defense needs to be special because I have little faith in Ridder beating teams like SMU, Memphis, and UCF with the way he has played.

He's basically the Mick Cronin/Marvin Lewis of QB's. Good enough that you don't want to fire him/take him out but not good enough to win you the big games. I agree with you that if he plays liek this all year, he's not good enough to beat any of those 3. IF we want to beat an LSU or Auburn, he isn't even close to being good enough. If all we want is 9-10 wins keep him in. If you want to shoot for the stars, at least see what Bryant gives you.

Yea, but he isn’t going to be ready for at least a year and I don’t believe Ridder is the best option after 4 years of recruiting and developing players.

The coaching staff always talks about how much they trust Bryant and how he does everything right. I think it’s far more likely that they simply don’t want to make a change when they have won so many games with Ridder. Hopefully they surprise us and are at least discussing the option.

I know he's not ready this season but you said the QB recruiting may need to be re-evaluated by the staff. They did re-evaluate and went out and got Cincinnati's highest rated recruit and it was at the QB position.

Exclamation RE: UC QB situation (Ridder v Bryant)
I'm fully on the Bryant train. However, he was over/under throwing receivers while he was in the austin peay game. I still think he has a better arm and has a higher ceiling, but I feel like he screwed up a big chance during that game. Give him ~30 games like des has gotten and I'm confident he will be a huge improvement

Well, he hasn’t been developed yet so it’s hard to say for certain at this point. Bryant was a highly rated recruit as well as some others. If they aren’t at least as good as Ridder, then it may not be recruiting but development. May also explain why we haven’t seen any improvement from Ridder since he took over.

With Ridder, I think we're going 8-2. And that's a shame considering how talented this team is. I hope I'm wrong, because I don't think he's getting pulled anytime soon.

I am undecided on the QBs this year. However, I also think that our receivers aren't doing Dez any favors out there. In the past, we've had receivers that could make the difficult or contested catch. I haven't seen that in the last couple years. If we had a Shaq Washington type receiver out there, I don't know that we'd be having this discussion.

Are you talking about the time Dez handed it off to the other team, or when the guys were wide open and had to go back for the ball?

Receivers were open all day Saturday. The wounded ducks, overthrows and mis-reads didn’t help.

I think thats the biggest rub for Bryant. Dez, to his credit, has won a lot of games. Bryant will end up having an exceptionally short leash because the staff knows Dez can win games that he is supposed to win.

This argument may have worked last year, though Pearce had several contested catches. On Saturday though the WR’s were balling and wide open throughout the game.

When the receivers are open as much as they were Saturday, they are literally doing their job and it should make the QB’s job an easy pitch and catch. Instead Ridder was off so much there was no chance at a contested catch. For contested catches he has to at least be close to give them a chance and that wasn’t happening.

Dez is an explosive runner, particularly if he gets a head of steam but he isn't great at making people miss and he isn't the best decision maker on when to run. His speed gives us an opportunity for big plays from the QB run, but I don't think he's anywhere close to elite as a runner.

I'm basing it on I believe he was like top 10 in the country in QBR running last year but I would agree he's a poor decision maker especially on read option plays. But his speed makes a lot of big plays on scrambles. I think we're on the same page it's just a matter of how you define elite. I may have just talked myself out of it.

I think this is part of the reason for bryant not performing they way he seems to be capable - if he doesn't throw a touchdown on every pass he's going to get pulled

To be fair, it was a "Pitch."

Bryant started one game against the eventual conference champion in a season where he got minimal live in-game reps. if that is the logic that the Coaching staff is using to start Dez over Bryant, then they aren't really wanting to make a decision at all.
