And you can bet that if we were playing Central Arkansas the same people would be claiming how we shouldn't be wasting our time and should be playing a better team.

We are practicing as if in- season. what's the harm in having a saturday game in the middle of a grueling stretch of practices ? Players want to play / scrimmage.
if you've ever played a sport you get it, or maybe you don't .

No, what we are missing is 4 to 6 games as Bourne communicated when the plug was pulled.
He had the normal OOC JMU plays with 2 cream puffs and a FBS game against UNC plus games against Elon and Villanova that would be considered OOC Games.

We now know the CAA is trying to play 6 games in the Spring so JMU could have played up to 5 games In this Fall.

Could some teams have bailed after contracts were signed? Sure. Could other teams become available as their opponents bailed? Yes. We’ve seen some teams schedule new opponents with less than one week lead time.
JMU waived the white flag which is what you would expect from Jon Alger.
The latest count shows 134 Division 1 teams playing football this Fall. Where is JMU? How can a legit sports fan accept this? This is a program forfeit

RE: Silver Lining 2020-21 Football
The FCS said they’d play a championship in the spring, that is what we compete for, the CAA title and NCAA title. Up until the other day nobody knew just how many games the CAA would schedule, so how do you suggest they would have created a schedule? So they schedule 4-6 exhibition games against FBS schools, all road games, all without any fans in the stands and no real big payouts due to these reasons and a lot of real costs tied into travel and additional testing for these exhibition games just to appease you until the real season starts in the spring? And then go ahead and cancel several of the exhibition games because it would now put us over the 11 game limit and potentially owe money for breaking the contract...oh, and let’s not forget the $30+ million deficit the school and $5.5+ million deficit the athletic department is facing. And if a key player would suffer a key injury during these games and put the real season in jeopardy the same armchair ADs would be calling for people’s heads.

Your shtick sucks. JMU expressed intent to go it alone after the conference waived the white flag you speak of. The Alger and his crew went to work trying to figure out a way to just get students back in the classroom. JMU is in the business of education, not athletics. If you haven't been paying attention lately, there's been some challenges with just that much. We all want sports back, but you want it back at the expense of JMU's values and mission, so you just blame Alger or Bourne and that's it for you. However, the problems are much deeper than JMU athletics just giving up as you think they did.

It’s really not/ the FCS teams who are playing exhibitions and opted out of Spring when the playoffs and NCAA playoffs are being played they are essentially forfeiting. ODU has forfeited/opted out of this season altogether. JMU chose to compete for another title in lieu of trying to cobble together a schedule that was tenuous in Fall.

No schtick, just the truth. Are you suggesting the 134 universities playing football are not in the business of education? They aren’t facing challenges with COVID and getting kids in the classroom too?

What is different about JMU? The man in charge.
Maybe you can list some overriding issues that JMU can’t overcome, but other universities can with regards to football. It would be helpful for me to know what problems you think are unique to JMU only.

Of the 134 the large majority of the teams are conference affiliated FBS. Only independents are Army Notre Dame and BYU. Handful of FCS many as Road fodder for P5 FBS. Hey nice highlight for Campbell in the game at Wake Forest but they lost the game 60 something to 15. Wake would not have played JMU so it’s a moot point. Wasn’t much ROI in playing and as it turns out JMU would have likely had to start and stop due to A Covid outbreak at school anyway. Just don’t see the upside of a few games in Fall for JMU.

Anyone with an ounce of competitive blood in their veins is frustrated that JMU is missing out on an opportunity to be playing football. I chose to watch the Jacksonville State/Florida State game yesterday over some of the others because that could just as well been The Dukes and leading at the half 21/14.

RE: Silver Lining 2020-21 Football
Got it, I thought teams could play 5 Fall games if their conference was only going to have 6 conference games in the Spring. Not sure why there would be a cap at 4.
So not much impact, if any, on the 16 team playoffs based on those 4 teams. I guess we will see in the Spring if things get better and all FCS teams play or if there is Actually a percentage that bail due to COVID or due to cost. Nobody knows what the COVID impact will be. In the Spring We do know there will be no money games available and that is a major problem for cash strapped FCS. There are Some teams that scheduled not one, but two FBS games a year to help fund their program. If Jeff Bourne is Shamelessly begging for money, how much worse off are Maine, Eastern Washington, SE Louisiana etc.

Once the spring season begins everyone will have completely forgotten not playing this fall. We will be in the stands rootin instead of watching on the computer. Then when we host playoff games in beautiful spring weather it will be a tailgaters paradise. Going to Frisco in warm weather will be a treat, as well.

Embrace it.
