RE: 2020 Pickem Contest Week 5
Congratulations to Shannon Panther, our first repeat winner of the season. Shannon edged out yours truly with a record of 8-5, winning the second tiebreaker. He picked Airforce to win with total points of 48 (actual number = 47) and gets the 3 rep points as his reward. Feel free to add to that total by giving him rep as well.
Kaplony and panite tied for third at 7-6, and each gets one rep point for their efforts.
After three weeks, our Top Ten performers by winning %age are:
.639 IWokeUpLikeThis
.583 panite
.556 Shannon Panther
.528 quo vadis
.500 Texan Mark
.500 zibby
.472 Buckminster Fuller
.472 ken d
.444 ChrisLords
.444 XLance
Collectively, we did better than the favorites, with a .401 winning percentage compared to a puny .308 for the favorites. Year to date we are at .474 and faves are .441. For all 82 games played this year, favorites are covering the spread at a .427 clip, which is well below historic norms. So this is a tough year to be picking.
I'll have next week's slate as soon as I have point spreads for all the games.

Well alright, I'm in to the top 5, LOL.
Won't stay there long, I'm awful at this. Too emotional. At least I'm smart enough to know that and not actually bet money.
My Bulls pulled through, losing by "only" 21 as 21.5 dogs. Thank Heaven for nonexistent favors, LOL.

i'd like to say I'm surprised, but shocked is the actual word. My history has been win, place, or show week one then my picks take the trajectory of a lawn dart., straight down.

Picking against the point spread is the great equalizer, something the bookmakers have known for a long time. I suspect that by the end of the season, all of us will be in a close race, and very few of us in the black. I don't think there will be any lead that is too safe. We'll all be lawn darts some weeks and kites in others.
