Barry Odom is the D.C. at Arkansas
So, watching Georgia-Arkansas and they mentioned that Barry Odom (one time Memphis DC and candidate for our head coach) is now the DC at Arkansas.

I disagree, he would have made a good DC for Norvell

When people leave Memphis, their career kinda stagnate. It's something about Memphis that brings the out best in coaches. I know people will bring up Calipari but he would have had more championships if he stayed at Memphis. His only championship was because of the NBA lockout and a loaded team with AD. Joshie was just a bad coach if anybody wanna bring him up. Preston Laird will be great coach because he embellished the Memphis culture.

We’ve had assistants that have fared well. We’re kinda new to the head coach moving on to greener pastures thing.

I saw Rip Scherer on Hard Knocks: Los Angeles. He's a consultant for the Chargers now, I believe.
Lots of Tigers connections on staff with the Steelers.
Porter has always done well as an AC and still is.
Plenty of Fuente and Norvell ACs doing well at power programs.
Plenty of Cal and Josh ACs doing okay.
And don't forget Luke Walton.

RE: Barry Odom is the D.C. at Arkansas
I think Odom was & can be a pretty good head coach. Probably not at Memphis because recruiting is so important here to find those diamonds in the rough & he either didn't relate & or didn't work as hard as needed. He also is not a dynamic salesman, also needed here. But his defensive scheme skills were outstanding here. At Missouri he was doomed. That program & the university in general was/is in disarray & second guessing it's SEC decision (admin longs for the B1G & fans would prefer their old rivals).

Odom is a good DC. Realistically, Arkansas' defense looked pretty good Saturday, Georgia's talent just eventually wore them down and beat them up but the scheme was good. Odom is much better as a DC than a head coach.

Georgia had 5 points at halftime and their defense and special teams accounted for 16 pts. Kirby Smart went out of his way to praise Odom's game plan.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but which of Calipari's assistants had successful tenures as head coaches themselves?
- Bruiser Flint had a long run at Drexel, but he was ultimately fired and is back on Calipari's staff at Kentucky.
- Derek Kellogg had a long run at UMass, but he ultimately got fired. He's been at LIU Brooklyn for a couple of years, and has a 0.500 record.
- Tony Barbee was at UTEP, and then Auburn, getting fired before ending up back on Calipari's staff at Kentucky.
- Josh Pastner has probably had the best success of any of Calipari's assistants, having coached at Memphis, and then at Ga Tech.
Who am I missing?

Roccaforte is the only one missing.
I was referring to Bruiser, Kellogg, Barbee, and Roc. I said doing "okay" - I didn't say making final 4's. The point I was making is that guys have not exactly "stagnated" after leaving, as the poster said. Plenty of guys got their chances.

Just as he was for Fuente. He did well here.
Just never felt like he fit in here as a Head Coach.

Coach Roccaforte is at East Carolina & we see him at least a couple of times a year play the Tigers. I always liked him.
After leaving Memphis he was a Head Coach at Lamar but ultimately was let go
He's been a top assistant at quite a few big programs.
Including:
Tulane (assistant)
Memphis (assistant)
Lamar (assistant)
Lamar (Head Coach)
South Florida (assistant)
Virginia Tech (assistant)
East Carolina (Assistant Head Coach)
He always was a clothes horse & dressed well. He took advantage here of Calipari's relationship with James Davis & always looked spiffy.
I noticed he'd grew his hair longer & also a full beard when he was here last year.

Odom can kiss my ass with a blade of grass. He wouldn't give Bowen the time of day. He's earned his demotion.

Not excusing Odom stringing us along while campaigning for the MO head job but Bowen was never easy to deal with for anyone.

If Cal wasn't such a narcissist, how do you think Derek Kellogg would have fared instead of Josh? I believe DK is a much better coach than Josh. Not sure how he would have recruited. I think he cost himself a lot of money but like they say Loyalty First.
