Staying silent while one's ideological fellow-travelers do bad things is at best contemptible weakness, or even tacit endorsement of those bad things. No?

Well, gosh!
In the second year of the Second World War, when the US was still officially neutral and the British Commonwealth stood alone, FDR's special envoy Harry Hopkins was an indispensable personal link between America and Britain, equally valued by both Churchill and Roosevelt for his ability to distill the key points of an issue. Churchill nicknamed Hopkins "Lord Root of the Matter".
To be thought of in even remotely similar terms is quite an honor. :)
