How Did We Get Here? A Timeline of Events. (Sports Cuts)
Were you surprised when W&M cut 7 sports?

While we were too, the writing was on the wall.

Read our recent article to learn about the timeline of events (from 2015 and on) that led to the decision.

RE: How Did We Get Here? A Timeline of Events. (Sports Cuts)
Please stop. You’re destroying your own credibilty.

Don’t defend this. It can’t be defended.

I’ll keep it simple.

Some of us here saw the writing on the wall. Swimming saw the writing on the wall. They talked to the AD last year after seeing the writing on the wall. Swimming was mislead, and that’s being charitable.

Moving on to track. Did you listen to the female track athlete last night? Cutting men’s track weakens the woman’s track program.

Did you listen last night? Gymnastics, swimming, and track athletes from W&M provide the youth coaches for the greater W’burg area.

Rowe and Huge have abandoned W’burg and Virginia families in the quest for national glory ... ie ... forgetting the base / foundation.

This is an absolute (fill in the blank) and ALL sports will be collateral damage.

Let the smoke clear a little bit. The Tribe 7 has just begun to fight!

Has WMSB attempted to interview Huge? Former coaches & staff? Former athletes who may offer some insight? Anything at all they may give us a look behind the corporate curtain?

Where were we defending/where in the article did we say we agreed or disagreed? Nowhere.

It was a neutral-stance article that was not saying that we think it was the "right" decision to do so, just that through prior press releases and documents, the department seemed to have the writing on the wall.

Please stop getting so combative. Helps no one.

Actually in talks with a former coach so TBD on that.

Not on Huge; her priority seems to be communicating through official channels right now. I know there's the virtual Q&A session with her next week. I highly doubt she'd offer anything to us.

I also highly doubt we'd be able to get anything behind that curtain that hasn't already been discussed by former/current student athletes, especially during the listening session yesterday.

We should start another timeline about Huge and her run. That one would be more fun.

I didn’t read your article.

I was responding to your posting.

I’ll be blunt. There is no credibility left. There is no trust. It’s all over. It’s not a question of “if”, but of “when”.

Any timeline ... any report ... any study ... flawed. All done to provide cover. Nobody is buying it. Nobody ... no one from the 1960’s .... 2020’s .... academics .... sports nuts .... nobody .... universal condemnation except for some hold-outs.

To try to defend the decision, they had to release the financial data. Mismanagement is all over the released documents. That’s your story, not some artificial timeline created to give cover.

Stay away. Keep your powder dry.

Combative? Damn straight. I’ve given a lot back to this place, and to see it thrown away so quickly, and so casually, and so harmfully, yes, I’m combative.

LOL please read the article before commenting something that has quite literally no meaning without the context of article taken into consideration (hence the whole point of launching this thread).

There is no "cover" provided for anyone in the article; it simply makes the point that press releases and documents released by admin over the last couple years were their writing on the wall for recent moves.

More fun in the same way that reliving the Villanova game in '09 or the last 3-4 minutes of the Delaware basketball game is fun.

Not referencing this particular article. Moreso about reporting on TA in general. I usually read a lot of fluff when it comes to TA, and, I know there's another side to the story.

I'm looking for some media outlet to trek outside of what's popular within the confines of Tribe Athletics.

Q1: Mr. Daly, will you discuss the days or weeks leading to your dismissal? There are whispers that Samantha Huge leads by intimidation; will you speak to that?

Q2: Director Huge, you were hired, to an extent, because of your past fundraising wizardry. Please, explain why Tribe Athletics, under your supervision, has experienced financial hardship & deficit unlike anything in W&M history.

Q3: Matt Crispino, you are a legend at W&M, both as a student-athlete and coach. What, exactly, led to your decision to move on from the university you love?

These are just a few off-the-cuff questions and probably not helpful for retaining media credentials. But, my position is, someone needs to step outside their comfort zone. For the record, the Flat Hat "reporter" asked Samantha some tough questions at the Town Hall meeting and Samantha looked outraged. I haven't heard from that reporter since.

Dozens of former employees are out there and they have a real story to tell. May be worth probing.

History didn't begin in 2015. It might be interesting for you guys to go back farther -- the passage of Title IX, the 1991 cuts (and attempted cuts), etc.

A certain unnamed, long-serving, world-class athletic trainer who became an administrator was one of Samantha’s first targets. He was let go with no warning. I’ll bet his position was filled with several new Huge acolytes...and I’ll bet he’d be a great interview.

[/quote]

It strikes me as curious that Huge was hired under the premise that she was a fundraiser. She was the athletic department "liason" to the Texas A&M athletic foundation. I would interpret "liason" as being a check and balance on what the foundation was doing and not someone who knocks on doors and solicits donations. The vast majority of Ms. Huge's experience is compliance related.

Her first administrative hire, Erik Korem, who bullied trainers and SC guys (12 of 13 trainers and 6 of 6 sc guys gone within months of each other) voluntarily resign rather than tolerate the hostile environment created in the performance area. Two months ago, Korem demoted from a supervisory role as the aggressive environment he created became public and the Provost had no choice. One month ago, let go just days before the “7 Sports Cut” announcement. Lawsuits and workplace grievances have been filed! Did Huge quietly eliminate and cover up one big distraction in public embarrassment before the announcement?
Would be interested when that whole saga becomes public!

Just thought I’d bump this thread ... in view of the Daly interview.

Good job with the Daly interview!

Now, give your elders on this thread some props for being right!
