Ive said for months I expected Houston to challenge for the championship this year. That said---they are just one among several with a legit chance to win the league in 2020. Just continue striving to rise. Good things will happen.

Good job by CBS Sports.
Some commentators continue to perpetuate the narrative that the G5 is practically Triple A baseball compared with the P5. There were years the ACC or B12 would have been envious of five teams being so highly regarded. The American profile has risen this year based upon both performance and the absence of two P5's being in play. Let's hope this can continue in a very unpredictable season.

It is of equal interest that there are 7 non-P5 teams in this top 25 list.

RE: Rating the AAC
1. SMU (5-0, 3-0) undefeated this far in is impressive.
2. Cincinnati (3-0, 1-0) have looked very strong on defense
3. Navy (3-2, 3-0) all y’all have the Midshipmen too low, they are undefeated in conference
4. Memphis (2-1, 1-1) huge, gut check, monkey off the back win yesterday. Hopefully y’all are in for a let down this week?
5. Tulsa (1-1, 1-0) Golden Hurricane looking the best since a long time.
6. Houston (1-1, 1-0) won and lost handily but should make some teams unhappy in conference
7. UCF (2-2, 1-2) losing record in conference but very dangerous and expect to see better results as season progresses
8. Temple (1-1, 1-1) late start to the season, can the Owls improve?
9. ECU (1-3, 1-2) playing better but still a loss is a loss
10. Tulane (2-3, 0-3) winless in conference, tough loss to SMU
11. USF (1-4, 0-3) winless in conference, tough loss to Temple
I could listen to arguments switching Tulsa/Houston and Temple/ECU. But based on overall performance, this is where we stand.

Actually I would say Tulsa belongs top 3. They beat UCF on the road and lost to top 10 on the road. And well they are unbeaten in conference ?

I hear you, Tulsa arguably could move past Memphis in this weeks list, but not top 3 yet. Navy, Cincy and SMU have more games so far on which to judge.

I think Tulsa's UCF victory is more impressive than Memphis' I'd have to put us slightly ahead of them because we actually have a defense.

Yeah I'm sure UCF was sky high playing Tulsa even though Memphis has played them two times in the last three years in the conference championship game. You caught em napping after two massive blowouts. Not to mention they were probably looking ahead to a game they had circled on their calendars.

Really? You are this bad at it? Maybe you should take a break from the interwebs till you get that jealousy over lil ol' Tulsa under control.
From the game preview:
Quote:With a 37-4 record since the start of the 2017 season, there aren’t a lot of opponents on No. 11 UCF’s payback list.
Tulsa, which upset the Knights a year ago, is one of them.
“Personally, I’ve been waiting,” sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel conceded without expanding on his feelings about the Knights (2-0, 1-0 American Athletic Conference) having an opportunity Saturday night to even the score for a disappointing 34-31 loss to the Golden Hurricane.
We didn't sneak up anyone. You know we beat them for conference championships and unlike Memphis had actually beat them a few times this century including top 25 versions. At their place even.
They walked in expecting and getting the same Memphis they had been beating on for 3 decades. Put up how many points and how many yards on you?
Memphis fans idea of football success is other teams missing field goals.
Lol Memphis.

I agree because we didn't think TU had the talent to match up and TU played a great clean game. We might have expected UM to play better but Tulsa played a game that could have beaten most P5. It was inspired FB, they deserved to win.

They specifically said that they had circled Tulsa on their calendars because we beat them at our place last season. They weren't napping at all.... that's why they came out firing in the first quarter against us. I will say that Memphis has a really good offense, but your defense is freaking terrible. You've given up +150 yard receiving days to how many kids this season? 4 in 3 games? You guys are getting dangerously close to allowing a first down on literally every play an opposing offense runs.

Clean game? Did you see our penalties and our turnovers?
We played "cleaner" than you but not by much, it was the difference in the game. Several false starts sabotaged your offensive drives. I thought those were better from you all vs Memphis, but you replaced them with a bunch of defensive penalties, although to be fair some of those were forced by Memphis offense and talent.
If UCF would quit shooting itself in the foot you all would likely be the best team in the conference. Cincy needs its passing game to get going. SMU needs a defense. Navy is erratic, Memphis needs a better defense. All the teams have flaws, only the Knights have the issue that is obviously fixable. Unfortunately it has cost you all two games.

Lol Memphis.
The last 3 championships belong to Memphis and UCF. Keep dreaming. It was the perfect "trap game". UCF was on top of the mountain 2017+2018. Last year it was Memphis. Remember the double overtime championship game between Memphis and UCF? One constant for the last 3 championships, Memphis was in all 3 of them.

I won't deny Memphis has had issues on defense the last two games, but did you hear the commentators yesterday? Yesterday was the second most yards by two teams in the AAC except for another game played by Memphis and UCF. Those two teams have had a lot of shootouts. Memphis hasn't had a great defense since the beginning of the Fuente era. UCF and Memphis have consistently been at or near the top in offense over the last five years. They're not doing it with defense. They're doing it with offense.
Part of Memphis problems with the defense is they're just not in sync yet. Maybe its the long layoffs or the quarantines but they're missing assignments as bad as I've ever seen them this year. Yeah, it's a concern but defense usually takes longer to get things going and I think (hope), they'll start putting it together. They won't be great, but I expect them to improve a lot throughout the season. We'll see.
