Ask yourself if FAU were ranked higher would you use that in your position?
I have used all sorts of rankings, even rankings by stats (turned out to be just as useless. Which is why I look at scores of games that were actually played.

2. A team that was 1-7 in the Sun Belt last year beat a team that was 5-3 in CUSA last year by 11.
3. A team that was 2-6 in the Sun Belt last year lost in OT to a team that was 3-5 in CUSA.
4. App State (the only team involved with a new coach) beat a team that was 5-3 in CUSA by 15 and lost to Marshall.
5. The Sun Belt has secured a winning record against the P5 this season.
The Marshall win over App is good, but that's the only team involved in SBC-CUSA games that has a new HC, and given how FAU has Willie Taggart and no longer has their QB from last year, my pick to win CUSA East is Marshall.
Marshall might end up having a win over the champ, but for now it's advantage Sun Belt.
Now, SBC and C-USA are 3-3 against each other. The C-USA teams that had lost to SBC teams are simply turning out to be bad. The only game that matched good teams against each other Marshall (6-2 in C-USA) last year and AppState (7-1 in SBC last year) ended with the former winning.
So, where is that "advantage SunBelt"? There are still games between the two conferences left. Two this week and, at least, one in December (FAU at GaSo)

RE: Let this put an end to SBC vs CUSA
With how CUSA is handling the UAB and Marshall situation, can we just cancel both conferences already, and start the ever debated best of the rest now?
It's getting really hard to defend this conference, not for play on the field, but its lack of leadership in the CUSA offices.

To your point, the UAB win was your divisional champ vs one of our worst. The Troy win was a middle of the pack SBC team vs what many are now believing to be the worst team in the country. The South Alabama win over Southern Miss appears to have had more to do with the latter being in complete disarray, as it's clear South Alabama hasn't really turned a corner, unless UAB is something of Top 25 material (which I suppose they could be, but never have been to this point). Not a lot of even matchups to draw from.
Aside from the SBC's sweep of the Big XII, and Marshall's win over APP, there aren't a lot of meaningful data points to differentiate the two conferences. I'll revise my stance likely through the end of the year as it does appear the SBC and CUSA are on even footing for now.

The key matchup is UTEP @ ulm. The winner of that game will hand their conference title of best, CUSA vs. Sun Belt.
So...we're counting on you Miners.
No pressure or anything like that...

Good lord, people. Who really gives a crap if one conferences' #9 team beat the other conferences' #11 team? Most of us have only played 1 FBS game so far in 2020. LOL! Some of you people need another hobby.

RE: Let this put an end to SBC vs CUSA
This debate made no sense, anyways. So, we had 7 games and I do not think, based on them we can claim either of us is better.
Let's just agree that SunBelt and C-USA are tied for 8th place, ahead of hapless MAC.
Until we have more evidence, that is.

Can't argue with that. We have had a few teams rise up this year, and a few teams regress, as per the law of averages. Tied it is, but it looks like you may take the G5 Southest Region Cup with your overall record vs the Sun Belt this year, lol.

To be fair we beat them the second game we played last season so their parade was short lived.
