Louisville ..... 20

No defender was in the same area code with that Miami receiver. If UL could stop the 75 yard touchdown play they might have a chance.

I see bright spots in Louisville's offense. Defensively they make a play here and there but by and large they can't tackle. The don't wrap up and drive through tackles. Instead they lower shoulders and bounce off. And the defensive alignment is on the DC plain and simple. They've been out of position for the Miami set and they've been exploited twice now at least.

I'm not saying the U is back, but this is the most competitive they've looked on both sides of the ball in a while. In short I'm seeing some talent there.

I agree, but I also think it's "same old modern Louisville". Which means yes, some (and occasionally very good) dynamism on offense thanks to speed at the skill positions, but significant weakness in other places. Basically, they live and die with their speed at the skill positions. Sometimes it's enough, sometimes it isn't.

It hurt when Kelly left Cincinnati but I would've left for Notre Dame too. The dude took our program to another level in just three years at the helm...

34-6 [.850] 2-1 Bowls

Yep, those numbers look similar to his recent 35-6 run, both of which included a 12-0 undefeated regular season.

Kelly has three undefeated regular seasons with two different schools in the last ten years.

I don't think the guy gets enough credit as a good head football coach.

He’s a winner wherever he goes. He went 118–35–2 at Gran Valley State. I often think his abrasive personality is held against him. Of course, that personality is one of the things that makes him so successful- he does not tolerate losing.

Those three undefeated regular seasons in 10 years really stand out. That is pretty amazing.

I don't think anyone doubts that Kelly is a very good coach. There was talk of firing him in 2016 but that quickly passed.

Bottom line is, he just passed Frank Leahy, who won 4 national titles, on the all-time games-coached list at Notre Dame, and unless he loses his job in the interim, late next year he will pass Knute Rockne and Lou Holtz and will have coached the most games ever at Notre Dame. That's quite a bit of respect coming his way.
